(126,307 posts)was very kind and fun and talked the intrigue of politics every night at the dinner table. After dinner he would wrestle all four of us kids on the living room floor. He taught me to swim, mark a tree if hiking in the woods, how to change a car tire (you get a boulder from the side of the road and put it under your car in case the jack fails, if it fails then you can try again). He was supportive of me my whole life. He spent years trying to grow a wall of sweet peas like his grandmother had at her house on a river, he never quite suceeded but didn't quite give up either. He took on West Nile mosquitos at the cottage and read 7 newspapers on Sundays. He loved to cook and was in fact made camp cook when he was 17 and was on a lumber survey crew in the wilds of Quebec. He adored his friends and loved to be teased by them. Sometimes he teased back. He and my mom loved to go to Nova Scotia to holiday. It is where they met and fell in love at University. After mom passed away Dad would sometimes ask "Where's Mary?" He never let go of her it seems. He lived for another 7 years and by sheer luck was taken care of by people who teased and talked politics with him. He was the only person I ever met who thought nursing homes were fun. He passed in 2022. I miss him but feel close to him when I talk politics.
