What's important is that the news media ignored his silly show, because there was a lot of other stuff going on, like assassinations of state legislators and a couple thousand protests all across the country. So, his military unreality show just didn't capture the attention he thinks it deserved.
Sucks to be you, Donnie...sucks to be you...

(51,516 posts)We don't want to peak now. Rome wasn't built in a day. We want to peak at election times. June 14, 2025 will be long remembered in history books and in conscious memory. It seems like that will be because colliding events coalesced on the calendar, but it was a day when consequences began to be felt and seen.

Today has a bit more joy for Fathers Day, and hope for our children.

The Champs-Élysées (where Trump got the idea) works too
Tree lined DC urban streets just dont do it. No scale. My wife said it looked like the crowd for the Christmas parade here on Broad Street.

(13,003 posts)I had to laugh at all the criticism of the marching soldiers not being in perfect unison when marching in front of the big pooh bah.......
There were many of the soldiers just walking normally, not truly marching......
And one observer intimated that it they hadn't practiced and prepared adequately for the event, but I laughed and thought maybe it was all those soldiers sending a message in a passive/agressive way.....LOL

(149,500 posts)But, I don't know. Even when I was in the USAF in the late 1960s, marching in formation was simply something we never did after Basic. Never. I don't know how it goes these days in any of the branches.
Frankly, I never saw any benefit to be gained by marching in formation. These days, most enlisted people work in specialized jobs. There's not so much military niceness that goes on. You do formation marching in Basis. Military bands often continue to march. Some special units have formation marching as part of their ceremonial duties.
Most everyone else, though, not so freaking much.
I have no idea what the orders of the day were for those parade participants. Don't much care, either, and I'm sure they don't care either. Pain in the ass.
Edit to add: I was the band's drum major for the last two years of high school. We all worked hard on marching techniques for halftime shows and parades, and even did some tricky moves. The band director hated marching band, so he left it all to me. He gave me a book. So, I taught the band all about formation marching. We even won some prizes.
However, when I joined the USAF, on the first day of Basic, the drill sergeant asked, 'Anyone here have any experience in marching? Thinking quickly, I kept my silence. NEVER VOLUNTEER!
Never Volunteer and "Never get out of the boat".......LOL
Someone told me that they never marched when crossing a bridge as it could actually damage? the bridge????????/
