I-40 closed again near TN/NC border

A flash flood near Hartford, TN has caused a mudslide and flooding along I-40 just west of the state line. I-40 is closed in both directions. It is a mess trying to extricate all the trucks and cars in the 20+ miles that cannot continue past the blockage. Traffic had already been reduced to a single lane in each direction. The barriers between the lanes will need to be removed in places so the vehicles can go in the opposite directions. Not easy for large trucks to turn around.

I was lucky that my trip through there today had been postponed until tomorrow. I would have likely been right in the middle of it this afternoon. Now I will be traveling to Knoxville via I-77, I-81, and I-40.

Actually, I'm nowhere near that part of the country, right now I'm at a truck stop outside of Portland, OR waiting to pick up a load at the JB Hunt yard in Portland.

issues with travel near the Smokies. Scary stuff. Even I have been frightened when traveling roads that are undergoing widening by cutting further into the mountainside. Crews did a good job of creating drainage ditches for rain and mud here in north GA. Wishing you safe travels tomorrow!
