the moon could be hurled towards the earth. It would all burn up in the atmosphere and make for an amazing meteor shower, but it could also destroy satellites and create a cascading effect that destroys global communication and GPS.

because the aftermath of a near miss would be impossible to model i.e. predict in advance as it would be critically dependent on how close the miss actually was (akin to the "three-body" problem).

Every so often I remember to check the status of this asteroid although by the time it hits I'll be nearly 80 and won't be able to get out of it's way. Bummer.
