It's the jackals who wholesale houses.
Right now I've got three of those bastards sending me letters all the time - I get one about once every three days - offering me money to buy my house right now.
My house is EXTREMELY customized, and because of the modifications I've done to it, it's worth somewhere between $500k and $600k. The jackals are offering half that.
I'm in no money troubles, but I'm concerned about the people who are that might fall for these assholes trying to steal their homes.

(18,536 posts)Morons included their email addresses, back in the days when I knew how to access the email spambot.
But they must have enjoyed the thousands of recipes I signed them up for.
I get SF Bay Area radio and it's nonstop "Sell your home, an offer within 6 hours. No painting, cleaning etc"
I can't imagine the lowball offers.

(23,296 posts)I want to sell in the future and I will tell you that I will wait until I can sell to a family and not some jerk who will rent this house to college kids or others who will not take care of it.

(23,800 posts)Its in an upscale neighborhood in a tony suburb of D.C. The neighborhood comps were $800K -&950K. The vultures offered $400K as is.
Thankfully, my SIL (the executor) wisely told them to piss off!

(92,133 posts)Some homes should only be sold to those that will live there and can't rent out. Or limit it such as just a bedroom can be rented out or something which could be a little extra money for those living there but not enough to turn it into a rental business for people that will not live there.

(393 posts)Are pretty bad too. Im not talking about a person renting out a room in their house that they live in for some extra cash. Im talking about the investors that are creating little boutique hotel empires out of every single entry-level priced single family home they can get their grubby little hands on. Its a real problem in so many areas.
For example: where I live? Ive watched the number of entire home full-time (that is, no one ever actually lives there) Airbnb's EXPLODE from a few hundred houses in 2021 to a few thousand in 2025. Thats a few thousand families that are shit out of luck as far as housing goes. In ONE small city.
I dont think people realize how awful this is for communities. It breaks a social contract, drives up the cost of housing (both rents AND sales), and absolutely obliterates neighborhoods.
Stay at an actual hotel in places zoned for commercial use.

(52,463 posts)Just as Lyft and Uber are unregulated taxis AirBNB and VRBO are unregulated hotels which means the customer has very little protection at all against unscrupulous operators.

(393 posts)People who stay at short term rentals have little to no protection against unscrupulous operators. If something happens, youre pretty much on your own. The LLC the operators use as owners on these places insulate them (and their profit) from harm/loss.

(27,423 posts)or if Im feeling argumentative i deliberately with malice aforethought answer:
I wait patiently and then say, I am asking 1.7 million for my property, firm. And then go quiet. They tell me then that thats ridiculous and I answer them, First, you cold-called me. Second, Im a capitalist and seek a profit of great magnitude if I were to have to move, because its gotta be worth my time and energy. Yeah, and goodbye to you.
I never hear from that company again.
