I try to keep a balanced viewpoint so I read Haaretz and Al Jazeera. Ive posted from both sources here.

The Israel-Iran conflict is playing out exactly the way Netanyahu planned it, says Shahram Akbarzadeh, director of the Middle East Studies Forum at Deakin University in Australia.
Netanyahu started the conflict to torpedo nuclear talks between Iran and the United States, Akbarzadeh told Al Jazeera, speaking from Melbourne.
He would have known, and all observers would have known, that Iran would retaliate, and the Netanyahu plan [has been] to use the retaliation by Iran to drag the United States into the conflict.
Concerns by European powers about how the US involvement can escalate this conflict are perhaps why we see a pause in the US deciding to get involved and giving diplomacy a chance, he added.

There's a very simple question anyone who wants to deny that obvious conclusion needs to have a very good answer for: why NOW and not one, or two, or six, or twelve months ago, or so many months later? Provide a reason for now, BUT NOT EARLIER OR LATER, which is more plausible than correlating timing of the impending nuclear talks.

(1,818 posts)And now that the war has actually started and the U.S, by default, is ankle and soon to be neck deep in it, suddenly all the definitive (and B.S.) claims Bibi made about how Iran was literally just seconds away from producing a series of nuclear bombs that ole Major T.J. King Kong himself would've been proud to ride have evaporated. Coincidence? Nah.
Now his singular focus is on "regime change", which was Bibi's goal all along, and one that would've been impossible to pursue with the U.S. actively negotiating with Iran.

(257 posts)Threatening to kill the Supreme Leader, isn't negotiations it's a full on fuckin threat! Just how does this regime think the Iranians are going to respond? Of course it may just be that Iran has the better ability to work this out through diplomacy. The US certainly doesn't have it.
