Because, it appears that is where the country is headed.
Pretty obvious that the majority of law enforcement officers, ONLY "enforce" laws for Retrumplican MAGAt, racist dipshits.
I base that on seeing that not one fucking LEO has publicly called out this bullshit.
After serving 30 years in the Navy, I apparently was wrong in thinking that my fellow uniformed members would "stand publicly for the oath they took. REGARDLESS OF THE CONSEQUENCES.
Do you have any idea what it is like to dedicate more than a third of your life to something. and then find out it was all a fucking lie?
That's what my 30 years in uniform feels like.
Used to be, you could rely on the "courts" to uphold the "rule of law", but I am fucking sick of the;
"Oh, the courts will never allow that"
"Oh, he will SURELY lose the immunity ruling"
"Oh that will never pass judicial scrutiny"
Again, it's all been a fucking lie.
And...don't tell me about all the ways the "courts" have stood. Whatever it is, it just goes to the next court for a different ruling.
Kind of like when your mom said; "ask your father"...we all knew how that would turn out.
The Legislative Branch? Don't fucking make me laugh!
So where does that leave us?
I am not a violent person, but I just have to ask, "what will be enough"?
Some will say; "we can't be like the Retrumplicans".
Well, let me know when they stop being electorally rewarded for their violence.
Maybe, I'm just asking; "why should the Gestapo have all the 'fun'".
If violence is rewarded, like it currently is being rewarded on the "reich", it will only grow.
Where are the LEO'S denouncing this ICE Gestapo shit?
Where are the military officers. NCOs and Seaman Recruits with a spine?
Where are the judges that won't just fiddle while America burns?
Where is the repercussions to the Retrumplican politicians?
Where is the repercussions to the billionaires class?
As long as violence is "good for business" and "good for ratings", we will get more violence.
The very foundation of Democratic governance, freedom, law and decency, seems hinged to whatever the DOW is doing.
We will pay a heavy price for that.

(15,467 posts)I agree 💯
If my dad was alive, hed be devastated by the military not standing up for the Constitution. He was a vet of Korean War, Air Force.
I am perplexed as well that the military and the national guard are not breaking ranks and I don't know if it has to get truly violent before they do, or whether we're just fucked.
And I didn't think that all the people holding guns that were civilians were all on the other side as well ... I'm sure there's plenty of Democrats that have guns. They just haven't busted them out yet I guess.
Don't know what the real answer is, all I know is that it looks like it's going to get worse before it gets better...

(51,381 posts)Power was always divided and the law respected. Not so much anymore.
We'd be better off to have our own TV Network. Or to print a copy of the US Constitution for every American mailbox and go on TV explaining its workings and why. We need to channel patriotism, the good old Spirit of '76 patriotism.
We've gone soft with consumerism. Democracy needs tending. We outsourced it to fat cats. Republicans think the problem is welfare queens, SNAP benefits, and trans kids. Democrats know the source is elected officials in politics for themselves, for money over all else, for power over all.
A tried and true take on Republicans, back when they were monied interests, is they are for the private good. The triumph of the private interests over the public good. Life is now about gated communities, stock portfolios, private jets, tax cuts for the wealthy. Republicans believe in restricting the benefits of society to those who have the fattest wallets to pay for them.

(16,677 posts)Fortunately, I had sane people that I worked for in the military.
I never had to make that choice, because my leadership understood that part of my job was to "keep them out of prison".
Nothing ever got pushed far enough to make me consider resigning, or contacting the JAG.
I wouldn't last a.month in uniform today.
And, I know what I'm asking is beyond "hard". You're putting your entire career on the line.if you speak out...maybe more than that, but at what point is "enough is enough"?
Would you shoot protesters in the leg?
Escort masked, armed, unidentified ICE officers to a fucking flea market?
For me, I'd like to think there is a red-line.
Where is it?
