General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsLet me preface everything I'm about to say with the following:
I don't have a solution, this is more of a warning.
The masked and unidentifiable agents of "The Government" is part of programming us. Unaddressed, this will become "normal" and the next steps will ensue. As in more indiscriminate violence, enemy of the state arrests will rise, and country wide "Battalions" strategically located in blue cities to intimidate and enforce whatever edicts come from down on high.
We aren't six months into this presidency, and I assure you, by its first anniversary, we won't recognize America even compared to today.
My question for legal eagles is this: Do the people scooped up in these raids have any standing to sue? The backdoor question which I find more interesting if the answer is different, does a citizen have any standing to sue since it could be local, state or federal 4th? Amendment issues?
Why isn't there an effort in the courts to unmask these people, to if nothing else, determine whether the individuals making the arrests are even lawfully permitted through licensure or deputizing to carry them out?
Asking for at least 12 million friends.
I'm sorry in advance if I'm missing something grossly obvious here lol.

Great points you raise, John!

although in his comment post, he sure gave grounds for one of those suits. (I think it's comment #2)

(6,192 posts)I know if some masked person tried to grab me and drag me away, I'd be fighting for my very life (which, no doubt, I would be). But read today here when some 30 yo male did just that and is now being held for attempted murder of a LE officer.
In these situations, there is only loss. If you don't fight, you're whisked away to parts unknown. If you fight, you die. What's the difference? If you're gonna die, I say go out fighting...

(4,457 posts)The phrase "Don't let the bastards grind you down" is a key motto from the novel and TV series The Handmaid's Tale. It's a form of resistance against oppression in the dystopian world of Gilead. In the story, the phrase is initially found carved into the closet of Offred's room, a message from a previous Handmaid. It's a Latin-inspired phrase, "Nolite te bastardes carborundorum," meaning "Don't let the bastards grind you down".

(20,745 posts)This presupposes that the individual is in any capacity to contact the US legal system. From what I can tell, the detention is done with no legal notification - outside of the normal criminal process.
It also implies that the individual is still alive. Not "disappeared" as in the US shock doctrine destruction of South and Latin America.
Current proposed legislation in front of the US Congress would make any individual trying to sue the US government have to post funds sufficient to cover all court costs before the suit can be filed.

(6,192 posts)and they grab you with the proverbial Catch 22. Say... you have legal standing to file, but only if you put up all the money in advance before suing. Who among us has that ability? I dare say, if you do you're a rare breed around here! It ALWAYS comes down to money with this devils.
I am in full agreement with you. I reside in a very conservative, red state. This is not my home nor where I want to be. I am here for one thing. Employment. I have been looking for a new position since early this year. I do not feel safe and feel less secure as I consider the next 100+ days
