IRS tax refund delayed

I've been waiting on my 2024 tax refund since I filed electronically in February.

In mid-March I got a letter from the IRS asking for identity verification, which I promptly did. The verification website said it would take six weeks to get my refund processed.

And here we are, almost July. and nothing. From others (as posted on Reddit), it seems that the IRS is backlogged and I may (or may not, who knows) get the refund in August or September.

I communicated my problem with my Congressional representative, who supposedly sent my info to an IRS Tax Advocate - but no response.

Are any of you in the same boat? Why do I feel this is a direct result of the DOGE shenanigans? I have NEVER in 55 years of filing tax returns had to wait this long. And, wouldn't you know it, this year I was expecting a larger refund due to an overpayment of estimated taxes. Grrrr!!

Website basically give no updates.

Mine was unusually large due to some over withholding on a one time event.

Major pain in the ass, especially since I just got a 2017 issue finally paid back at the beginning of the year. They sent me a 15k bill in 2019, paid and noted that I was paying but the error was on their side. Then COVID hit and they went completely dark. Then they finally agreed it was IRS error, but said Statute of Limitations ran out.

First started fighting it using Katie Porter’s office, they had it for a year, did squat and then walked away from it after redistricting. Repub Rep office did get it resolved for me, took the IRS about nine months to actually process the check.

I know we have some IRS supporters here, but the vast majority of employees completely sucked. Got some shocking responses.

Conversely, CA State Franchise Tax Board hit me up sometime in 2021 on the same issue, similarly I had short time to pay. Difference was I provided them the exact same docs I provided to the IRS. CA resolved the issue in 30 days and within two weeks sent me a refund.

I was afraid the IRS would by dysfunctional a short
time from that.

I used their free tax service.

No hitches.
