It's bugging me. Seems there are more court cases than ever -- from local courts to appellate courts --

possibly grinding their way to the Supreme Court. The 2024-25 SCOTUS term began October 7, 2024, and technically ends October 5, 2025. Have heard Mark Elias mention that there were some hundred cases in a growing backlog that could appeal to be heard by the court.

However, the justices generally take a couple of summer months off to enjoy themselves, thus they're slated to relax in one of their sumptuous homes, collect money from donors and honoraria from speeches, or advances from books they write. (That's in addition to their salaries: Chief Justice - $317,500; Associate Justices - $303,600)

It's anticipated, then, that there are only two weeks left in this term -- with a number of major cases and appeals still awaiting rulings. For example, Scripps reports:

"One of the most anticipated cases remaining on the court's calendar concerns birthright citizenship. This case, which has generated significant public misunderstanding, traces back to the first day of President Donald Trump’s second term when he signed an executive order to prohibit birthright citizenship for children born to undocumented migrants on U.S. soil."

So are the many cases we hear daily -- undocumented/detained workers, besieged universities, officials being assaulted by ICE, and dozens of other civil rights issues awaiting appeal to the SCOTUS -- simply to be moved to October?

that means the crazy, likely illegal actions of this administration won't be resolved, if at all, until next Fall. Am afraid it will be too late for our society.

SCOTUS Blog explains it here:

As of now, they've handled 102 cases this term, with 7 pending. More than half of those are death penalty cases. There's always court business going on, even between the terms. (The justices may not be there, but their clerks and other staff are).
