DOGE effects on Social Security

Last edited Sat Jun 21, 2025, 02:16 PM - Edit history (1)

Years ago, when I applied for Medicare, I went online and made an appointment with the local SSA office.

When I arrived, the waiting room was packed; however, at the appointed time, the representative came out and called my name. All those people waiting did not make appointments.

At the meeting, the representative was extremely helpful, answering all my questions, and offering suggestions that would increase or speed my retirement benefit. I came out with Medicare and a monthly benefit as it made the most sense in my case.

Not long ago, a friend was signing up for Medicare. He made an online appointment and his result was the same as mine.

Yesterday, another friend called to ask me questions about his wife signing up for Medicare. I could answer some, but suggested the online appointment.

He later called to say SSA was no longer taking appointments. You have to sign up on line and call for answers to any questions about benefits.

DOGE?
