Concerning the Social Security cap and the current debate

You know, if the cap were raised just a little bit Social Security would be safe for generations to come, but if it raised a good bit not only would it remain solvent but the rate paid in could be reduced as well. People talk about raising the cap to $250K or thereabouts by hell, why not raise it up to a million or five million dollars, and then we can all pay in far far less than we do today?
