Eric Cantor may be the next Speaker of the House... Or some unnamed moderate. Either way, welcome to a GOP civil war

(34,845 posts)But I'm still rooting for the collapse of the GOP. It won't ever be 'over' in the sense of a firm timeline we can all point to before historians research it, but before it reaches its zenith, I think we'll see some Republicans only too happy to vote with Democrats against the Tea Party faction.

(2,715 posts)I'm organizing the DU "death of the GOP majority" celebration.
What kind of wine does one serve at that kind of party? Or should we just go with beer?

(34,845 posts)As for what type of wine to serve: ALL OPTIONS ARE ON THE TABLE!

My Family of choice (well known in certain circles for our ability to cook and make booze) has collectively decided that we might not have enough time to make good booze. (Wine needs at least three years to really express the notes in the mix. Anybody can make frat boy - 3 week - mead. GOOD mead takes a year. Tully style Mead takes 12 years.)
We might have to stick with -shudder- store bought booze.

(9,186 posts)Tea Party numbnuts have a true voice in the party and the GOP will lose elections for a few cycles. guaranteed.
Rebranding won't work. you can't fix stupid, you can't rebrand bigotry and hatred.

has had his eye on the speakership since the day Boehner got it. He always seems to be standing slightly behind ole John, ready to twist the knife a bit more. That smirk makes me ill. Isn't the date to elect a new speaker on Jan 5th? This should be good for a large popcorn.

(25,026 posts)Boner is pretty much as "moderate" as it gets in the old House TeaPubliKlans and Capitan Smarmy Dofus is not too far off.
As far as I can tell a "moderate" TeaPubliKlan is one that can refrain from extolling the godly virtues of rape in front of cameras and microphones. They are all wicked, greedy warmongers almost to the last. There used to be some paleocons that weren't so quick to jump into the wars and just didn't give two fucks about the people but at least weren't full of venom toward us. I guess something like them might be "moderate" nowadays but I think any of them that could get 90 votes is out.
Just the middle, never mind the fringe right, just the Broadway of the TeaPubliKlan party is looking batshit crazy in rearview and you can barely can be made out.
C'mon man! Paul Ryan is what passes for a serious thinking brainiac in that mob for crying out loud.
Who do they have?
Where do they get that crazy ass moderate stuff? It is loony tunes in its own right, what planet are these folks on talking that shit?

(30,058 posts)Besides him being Speaker it also puts him second in line for taking the presidents office. Obama and Biden will have to be very careful around the nut Cant'er, he just might get really crazy.

Their war will likely mean a totally disfunctional government until the Dems retake the House in two years.
