McDonald's Worker In Wales Was Fired For Putting Too Many Sprinkles On A McFlurry
A McDonald's waitress won £3,000 compensation today for being fired after sprinkling too much chocolate on an ice-cream.
Sarah Finch, 19, was fired for gross misconduct after giving extra chocolate topping to a workmate on a 99p McFlurry.
Miss Finch took the McDonald's restaurant to an employment tribunal after her bosses accused her of giving away food without payment.
The unfair dismissal claim was settled out of court and she was awarded more than £3,000 in compensation.

(9,070 posts)I don't know the system in Wales, but it seems like our "Step 1, Step 2, etc." arbitration we do when filing grievances over a contract. I also don't know the role of government regarding an unfair firing.

(5,756 posts)The manager is the one who needs some discipline now. He/She made such a stupid decision I'm reading about it on the West Coast of the US. Great PR.
I don't know how it works in other countries but I know here in the US this is not an unusual practice to give a few more sprinkles to a fellow employee or maybe top off the yogurt cup a little higher or some similar thing. I'd be willing to bet this totals far less than what they have to write off to spoilage.
Makes me wonder if the manager had a bug up their ass about this employee and was looking for a reason to fire her.

(29,414 posts)you'd be surprised at just how cheap some franchise owners can be! You can usually tell (apart from discussing it with the workers) by the overall quality of product they put out (i.e., low quality.) The better and best places are usually the ones that are generous with ingredient amounts.

(28,798 posts)i worked at a KFC for 4 months. the guy i worked for there would have done the same thing the manager in this case did. it was a miserable experience whenever he was around. i could never make myself believe that fried chicken mattered that much.

(12,389 posts)I was fired from Dairy Queen because I couldn't make the squiggly on top of the cone. The boss said the squiggly was the trademark and I just couldn't make it, so I had to be let go. I don't suppose it had anything to do with the fact that I was a cute little thing at that age and always had a few guy friends (non customer types) hanging around the store.
Later on in life I became a nurse, worked in an ER, performed millions of extremely difficult procedures, saved a few lives... but I bet I still couldn't make that squiggly today.

(1,957 posts)I would have always preferred a skilled nurse over a skilled squiggly maker. No doubt you made more smiles, relieved more suffering in your chosen profession. Squiggles come and go but nurses are here forever!

I dated a guy who worked at Wendy's. The manager was very strict when it came to the amount of time food had been cooked and kept warm. However, he gave the employees all they wanted.

(5,354 posts)"Whoa! Take it easy on those sprinkles." The end. Managing other people properly is an innate skill that lots of people don't have; unfortunately some "managers" don't have it.

Probably trying to save labor costs for the end of the year.
A nice screw you to the older workers for x-mas though.
I never did this shit when I was a manager, probably because I worked my way up and knew the shit folks had to go through every day.
What an asshat.
