(395 posts)We actually had music lessons, with a song book. The teacher had an lp for her record player, we got a short lesson, on notes, and we would sing our hearts out. This was probably 1958/9, in California with the redwood forests. I have 2 redwoods in my front yard.
So in1968, Revolution, by the Beatles, was right on.

American woman
Stay away from me
American woman
Mama, let me be
Don't come a-hangin' around my door
I don't wanna see your face no more
I got more important things to do
Than spend my time growin' old with you
Now, woman
I said stay away
American woman
Listen what I say
[Verse 2]
American woman
Get away from me
American woman
Mama, let me be
Don't come a-knockin' around my door
Don't wanna see your shadow no more
Coloured lights can hypnotize
Sparkle someone else's eyes
Now, woman
I said get away
American woman
Listen what I say, hey
[Instrumental Break 02:51-03:42]
[Guitar Solo]
[Verse 3]
American woman
Said get away
American woman
Listen what I say
Don't come a-hangin' around my door
Don't wanna see your face no more
I don't need your war machines
I don't need your ghetto scenes
Coloured lights can hypnotize
Sparkle someone else's eyes
Now, woman
Get away from me
American woman
Mama, let me be

With all of your money your poor can be fed
You strut around and you flirt with disaster
Never really carin' just what comes after
Well your blacks are dyin' but your back is still turned
And your freaks are cryin' but your back is still turned
You better stop your hidin or your country will burn
The time has come for you my friend
To all this ugliness we must put an end
Before we leave we must make a stand
Mortgage people you crawl to your homes
Your security lies in your bed of white foam
You act concerned but then why turn away
When a lady was raped on your doorstep today
Well your blacks are cryin' but your back is still turned
And your freaks are dyin' but your back is still turned
You better stop your hidin or your country will burn
The time has come for you my friend
To all this ugliness we must put an end
Before we leave we must make a stand, oh yeah......
Golden country your face is so red
With all of your money your poor can be fed
You strut around and you flirt with disaster
Never really carin' just what comes after
Well your blacks are dyin' but your back is still turned
And your freaks are cryin' but your back is still turned

(3,242 posts)As if I really didn't understand
That I was just another part of their plan
I went off looking for the promise
Believing in the Motherland
And from the comfort of a dreamer's bed
And the safety of my own head
I went on speaking of the future
While other people fought and bled
The kid I was when I first left home
Was looking for his freedom and a life of his own
But the freedom that he found wasn't quite as sweet
When the truth was known
I have prayed for America
I was made for America
It's in my blood and in my bones
By the dawn's early light
By all I know is right
We're going to reap what we have sown
As if freedom was a question of might
As if loyalty was black and white
You hear people say it all the time-
"My country wrong or right"
I want to know what that's got to do
With what it takes to find out what's true
With everyone from the President on down
Trying to keep it from you
The thing I wonder about the Dads and Moms
Who send their sons to the Vietnams
Will they really think their way of life
Has been protected as the next war comes?
I have prayed for America
I was made for America
Her shining dream plays in my mind
By the rockets red glare
A generation's blank stare
We better wake her up this time
The kid I was when I first left home
Was looking for his freedom and a life of his own
But the freedom that he found wasn't quite as sweet
When the truth was known
I have prayed for America
I was made for America
I can't let go till she comes around
Until the land of the free
Is awake and can see
And until her conscience has been found

(3,242 posts)Oh, my name, it ain't nothin', my age, it means less
The country I come from is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there, the laws to abide
And that the land that I live in has God on its side
Oh, the history books tell it, they tell it so well
The cavalries charged, the Indians fell
The cavalries charged, the Indians died
Oh, the country was young with God on its side
The Spanish-American War had its day
And the Civil War too was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes I was made to memorize
With guns in their hands and God on their side
The First World War, boys, it came and it went
The reason for fightin' I never did get
But I learned to accept it, accept it with pride
For you don't count the dead when God's on your side
The Second World War came to an end
We forgave the Germans, and then we were friends
Though they murdered six million, in the ovens they fried
The Germans now too have God on their side
I learned to hate the Russians all through my whole life
If another war comes, it's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them, to run and to hide
And accept it all bravely with God on my side
But now we've got weapons of chemical dust
If fire them we're forced to, then fire them we must
One push of the button and they shot the world wide
And you never ask questions when God's on your side
Through many dark hour I been thinkin' about this
That Jesus Christ was betrayed by a kiss
But I can't think for you, you'll have to decide
Whether Judas Iscariot had God on his side
So now as I'm leavin', I'm weary as hell
The confusion I'm feelin' ain't no tongue can tell
The words fill my head, and they fall to the floor
That if God's on our side, he'll stop the next war

(95,682 posts)Shaken baby sucking on the festive decoration
Turning patriotic colors to a purple stain
Dribbling down his belly
He's the hope of generations
The measure of the damage
We have yet to ascertain
Mammoth head of paraffin
Of malleable nature
Pounded with the platitudes
Admissible for use
Pitiful and blundering
A mortifying creature
His neck to too weak to support
The partial birth of truth
Misbegotten inconsolable
The fitting end result
Of his breed
Misbegotten inconsolable
A product of stupidity
And greed
Watch his as his dim eye
Roll back into his head
See him struggling in
His own filth to stand
Irretrievable and overfed
He reaches out
With his desperate little hands

Bad Cop, Bad Cop "Pursuit of Liberty"
[Intro]
Can this be America, the home of the free
When for the first time, I feel like a refugee?
Where we sought asylum, we were welcomed in
These days, it's perceived as a sin
[Verse 1]
Do you remember the fall of Saigon?
The city turned red by the Viet Cong
The choices they had were to flee or believe
That's when my family had no choice but to leave
This is the way of the Vietnamese
Where we became the new refugees
[Chorus]
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
By raising the fences, we're lowering the bar
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
It seems like we're traveling back to Manzanar
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
By persecuting people just trying to be free
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
We're stopping them from their pursuit of liberty
[Verse 2]
Since when do passports without the right stamps
Send people back to concentration camps?
No sight of future, no guarantees
Yet they still risked it all to save their families
What kind of world do we live in where this is okay?
Borders are baseless, it's one human race
[Chorus]
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
By raising the fences, we're lowering the bar
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
It seems like we're traveling back to Manzanar
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
By persecuting people just trying to be free
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
We're stopping them from their pursuit of liberty
[Bridge]
All of the people still watching their backs
Hiding in fear, covering their tracks
Could this be the start of the Fourth Reich?
This isn't what freedom looks like
[Outro]
By raising the fences, we're lowering the bar
It seems like we're traveling back to Manzanar
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
By persecuting people just trying to be free
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
We're stopping them from their pursuit of liberty
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
By raising the fences, we're lowering the bar
(Woah-oh-oh, woah-oh-oh)
It seems like we're traveling back to Manzanar
Clipping "Chapter 319"
How long can we holler when it ain't no breath?
You keep killin' fathers without no regrets
Then keep on countin' dollars 'til it ain't none left
So the streets gon' keep on marching like left, right, left
Fuck yo' empty promises, these ain't no threats
Streets is taking all of it; you made yo' bed
Fix it, always problems, we ain't goin' nowhere
Bring it straight up to your door, now who run it, hoe?
A knee to the neck is this week's
Symbol of shit you've been reapin'
As a reaper of people, there's no equal
To the police and they be their own sequel
So consistently as a monster
Paid by a system set up to prosper
On victims of the historic situating as property
People that are melanated, so easily separated, know what?
Fuck the history lesson, you know you know by now
We do not know-how
You keep playing dumb, but still be trusted with guns
You must be defunded
This march is not a one-off
This march is not the misaimed warning shot
This march a foot in yo' fucking throat
To choke out the whole assumption that you are here to protect us
This government doesn't respect us
And somehow they seem to expect us to accept
The power a piece of shit millionaire president wants to project
Fuck are you getting at? Get the fuck back in the bunker
We taking back spaces
'Til you manage to make them safe for black faces
That's up to the fact that America's racist
Donald Trump is a white supremacist, full stop
If you vote for him again, you're a white supremacist, full stop
Call it like it is, and then let the rims spin 'til they full stop
Put one up for Big Floyd, the march is not goin' to stop
It go left, right, left
How long can we holler when it ain't no breath?
You keep killin' fathers without no regrets
Then keep on countin' dollars 'til it ain't none left
So the streets gon' keep on marching like left, right, left
Fuck yo' empty promises, these ain't no threats
Streets is taking all of it; you made yo' bed
Fix it, always problems, we ain't goin' nowhere
Bring it straight up to your door, now who run it, hoe?
You wanna shoot without being shot back
Got news for you, no one's really 'bout that
You got the guns, but we got the shout
To vote the mouthpiece, the clout and the loud pack
(Got guns too)
Ya facts? Yeah, we doubt that
Show us receipts so we will denounce that
Take ya tear gas, inhale like an ounce of that cookie cake
Your bullets all bounce
Even when they break flesh, you are not safe
We are watching every motherfucking move you make
Play it back on cameras so no one can mistake
The order of events that lead to prove another life you take
And if the verdict come back less than murder
Don't be surprised when your streets are burnin'
This anger ain't misplaced
It is turning cop cars to bonfires 'til you learn
If you profit off this system, you should make them dollars fold
In the pockets that don't fund the death of black people, this whole
Fuckin' country 'bout the money, so watch where your money go
Let 'em know that we watching how they roll
Donald Trump is a white supremacist, full stop
If you vote for him again, you're a white supremacist, full stop
America can be better, but we must call it out 'til it full stop
Put one up for Breonna, the marching not going to stop
Left, right, left
How long can we holler when it ain't no breath?
You keep killin' daughters without no regrets
Then keep on countin' dollars 'til it ain't none left
So the streets gon' keep on marching like left, right, left
Fuck yo' empty promises, these ain't no threats
Streets is taking all of it; you made yo' bed
Fix it, always problems, we ain't goin' nowhere
Bring it straight up to your door, now who run it, hoe?
