Roget's Revenge . . .

A truck loaded with thousands of copies of Roget's Thesaurus crashed yesterday losing its entire load. Witnesses were stunned, startled, aghast, taken aback, stupefied, confused, shocked, rattled, paralyzed, dazed, bewildered, mixed up, surprised, awed, dumbfounded, nonplussed, flabbergasted, astounded, amazed, confounded, astonished, overwhelmed, horrified, numbed, speechless, and perplexed.

...synonymy, pronounced si-non-uh-mee - a set, list or system of synonyms.

Now I'm curious as to how many words in the English language might contain 3 "y"s.

In Word, the thesaurus is the second option in the review tab.

I know way too many students who notice they are using the same word over and over, so they select the word, click on the thesaurus, and just choose a replacement word at random . . . regardless of whether it actually means the same thing or not.

My mind instantly went to Thesaurus.

I am also dating myself. I doubt many under 50 would know.

A thesaurus is a reference book used to find different words that have the same or similar meanings. According to The Barnhart Dictionary of Etymology, the word "thesaurus" comes from the Latin word "thesaurus" which comes from the Greek word "thesauros," both of which mean a treasury or storehouse.

My favorite thesaurus these days is the Visual Thesaurus. https://www.visualthesaurus.com/

It provides a thinking map of the relationships with words, their closeness or distance in meanings.

It offers a 14-day free trial.
