Boehner to hold press conference, likely on "fiscal cliff"
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner has scheduled a press conference for 10 a.m. ET (1500 GMT) Friday that likely will focus on his thoughts on how to avoid the "fiscal cliff" at year's end.
Late on Thursday, Boehner abandoned attempts to pass a narrow Republican remedy to the tax and spending problem when he could not muster enough votes in his own party.

(2,140 posts)That's merely doing what they do best....It's their true field of expertise......I think those guys are austic savants...Barely adequate in any other endeavor, very substandard, but possessing an extreme level of excellence in one narrow area.......Lying.....The ability to DO it,not actually pull it off.........

(146,317 posts)Do it now, before you're further humiliated by your own party. Let Cantor try, and President Obama will go directly to the moderate Republicans and get what he wants passed. The GOP is dying.

(14,400 posts)if he really wants to avoid the sequestration he's been bawling about is to go to the Democrats and non-teabagger repukes. He's never going to get the support of the baggers, no matter what, and Pelosi has done a really good job of reining in the blue dogs and keeping the Democrats in line.
I for one don't see Boner actually having the guts to do this, he probably still holds out hope that he can remain speaker next year. Likely he's the only one that still holds out hope that he can remain speaker.

(14,400 posts)but I'd put a paycheck on the line to say he won't. I don't think he's got the foresight, guts or integrity to do anything but oppose Obama.
Obama could have responded to the first idiotic proposal that the repukes put out with. Sure, I'll take it! and Boner would have pulled the offer himself before DU exploded in keyboard rage.
Obama was right yesterday when he said that the repukes just can't say yes to anything he offers.

(14,400 posts)he's probably pissed off that he's getting the attention he is. He's most happy with pulling the strings outside of the public eye.
Before the republican fiasco over the debt ceiling last year most people who weren't paying attention had very little idea of who this clown was never mind the fact that a majority of puke reps and senators made a vow to him that they would never raise taxes.
Nobody is happier than I am that good ol' Grover is being forced onto TV to defend his little money making band of assholes at Club For Growth.

(31,706 posts)More or less what Boner wants is the Senate to force him to call for a vote. He punted...it'll be their compromise bill, not his that will be what is voted on. The dude is screwn any way things turn out here. Kantor's Cheshire Cat smile says all you need to know about where he thinks he's sitting...
