KSP trooper indicted on excess force charges facing lawsuit for tasing unarmed man multiple timeshttps://www.wave3.com/2025/06/17/ksp-trooper-indicted-excess-force-charges-facing-lawsuit-tasing-unarmed-man-multiple-times/
The lawsuit, filed Monday, June 16, claims Trooper James Cameron Wright used excessive force during a traffic incident on June 19, 2024, and violated Dawson Blevins constitutional rights. Wright pulled over Blevins and his co-worker, the driver, on their way to work at a construction site in Hardin County.
The lawsuit says Wright pulled them over since the driver wasnt wearing a seatbelt, but was more interested in Blevins than the driver, since he believed he recognized Blevins from a previous encounter.
To me, I wasnt even in the picture because I had my seatbelt on, Blevins said. I wasnt breaking no laws. His only issue should have been with the driver. I didnt want to be in that situation.
------------
Wright tells Blevins to lie on his belly, and Blevins says he is. Blevins was then tased again by Wright.
Wright told Belvins to put his hands behind his back before tasing him again. Blevins told him he couldnt put his hands behind his back while his body appeared to be twitching. Blevins was then tased again. As Blevins continued telling Wright that he was unable to put his hands behind his back, Wright walked up to Blevins and pepper-sprayed him in his eyes.
In the video, Wright then threatens to tase Blevins again if he doesnt put his hands behind his back. Blevins says they are, and Wright tells him to do it all the way. Wright then handcuffs Blevins, and Blevins is taken to the hospital.
Wright is not the only KSP trooper listed in the lawsuit filed Monday. Blevins attorney, Garry Adams, points to Wrights superiors as part of the problem.

Kentucky State Trooper James Cameron Wright was already facing 25 years in prison for abusing citizens in the line of duty when he was sued Monday for abusing yet another citizen by tasering him repeatedly while the man was already on the ground, ordering him to get on the ground.
The latest incident was captured on police body camera, revealing Wright to be a sadistic cop who seemed to take pleasure in torturing a man named Dawson Blevins, who had committed no crime, a pattern Wright had maintained for years with little repercussion.
But karma finally caught up to the 30-year-old cop in March when he was indicted by a federal grand jury on two counts of excessive force and one count of perjury for lying about incidents spanning from 2020 that are unrelated to the latest incident described in the recent lawsuit.
The latest incident to come to light took place last year when Wright pulled over a car driven by a man named Arturo Cordova while Blevins was sitting in the passenger seat, according to the lawsuit obtained by Atlanta Black Star.

It's the second lawsuit recently filed against Wright accusing him of using excessive force by tasing and assaulting an unarmed man after a routine traffic stop.
A federal grand jury in Louisville in March charged Wright and one former and current trooper with using unreasonable force for assaulting several people without reason from 2021 to 2024. The case is pending.
The criminal case against Blevins was just dismissed in earlier this month, so federal prosecutors likely didn't know about the incident before Wright was indicted, according to one of the attorneys representing Blevins.

(17,805 posts)Im glad the Grand Jury indicted his sadist thug. You just know he became an enforcer just for this reason, to intimidate and the use of force to get his jollies.
25 years would be a decent stay at the crowbar hotel.

Good luck to Mr. Blevins in his lawsuit; he underwent a lot of pain and suffering and I hope the jury awards him a large settlement.

(328 posts)history . Not just these things. They made a lot of them resign or be fired after a former captain after a drug test was found to have illegal steroids in his system. He made a deal and turned in others whom he was selling the drugs to . They resigned and the captian got a job with the marshals as security at the SSI office. Others went right to work in sheriff's offices. I know all this because at one time I was in law enforcement and worked with some that got caught. The KSP has kept all of this quite and it should be investigated and revealed to the public. These guys did get pumped up quick which should have been a clue to those in charge and stopped .
