I chose not to send my child to school today

An email was released by the superintendent's office stating a threat was made and that federal authorities were notified. The threat is for today but school is still in session.

I live in a rural area where access to guns is easy. Hell,I work with people who invite you over to see their collections, tell you about their grenades, and even own dynamite. Even the oddest threat has to taken seriously since access isn't an issue.

which was really an excuse, as there have been plenty of snowier days when school wasn't closed. Rumor is there were threats - which really sucks. Most of the classes had Christmas parties and gift exchanges planned...

So no party.

We also live near a military base so this should be a bigger deal for the district.

...is that the reaction to the threat appears to be the motive in most of them.

Shooters that are actually going to do something don't send threats, the just show up and kill people. They don't want anybody to know they're coming.

and was planned a couple of months ago. And the identity of only one is known- he's not talking about the others.

Things get silly and stupid right before winter break anyway. These days are hardly used for learning. Cut your losses and let everybody settle down over break.
