Brian Allen @allenanalysis🚨Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz just toured Alligator Alcatraz and came out shaking: Its 34 people per cage. They drink, brush, and defecate in the same tiny unit. The photos dont come close to the stench of it.
Were packing human beings into kennel conditions, then calling it justice.

Democratic lawmakers said they plan to attend Saturday's event but called it a "staged, scripted, and sanitized tour." They said they intend to return to the facility "unannounced for true oversight." Members of Florida Congress gave a press conference before their tour of the facility.

(5,971 posts)I've seen some suggest that someone may be able to get drones inside to take pictures/video. I have no idea if it's realistic or not, but you can bet the Government is never going to allow media to take any pictures or video of the conditions. Even Some MAGAs might be disgusted by the conditions.

(5,971 posts)In a loose crowd, a person occupies roughly 10 square feet. This means each person is about an arm's length from the body of the next person. In a more tightly packed crowd, a person occupies about 4.5 square feet.
The media reports have said there are 32 beds per cage. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz said 34. Regardless once you account for the space the beds take up, if you've seen any picture from inside the place, there doesn't seem to be much excess space to move around.
As for the conditions, here's a few other media reports beyond the one included in the OP.

Inside the compound's large white tents, rows of bunkbeds are surrounded by chain-link cages. Detainees are said to go days without showering or getting prescription medicine, and they are only able to speak by phone to lawyers and loved ones. At times the air conditioners abruptly shut off in the sweltering heat.

Only days after President Donald Trump toured a new immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades that officials have dubbed Alligator Alcatraz, these are some of the conditions described by people held inside.

Leamsy Izquierdo, also known as Leamsy La Figura, a self-described Cuban urban artist, was arrested for a violent incident and has been at the detention center out in the Everglades since Friday.
"There is no water here to bathe," he told Telemundo 51, adding it's been four days since he showered. He believes there are about 400 people inside the facility. "They give you food only once a day, food that even has worms in it," Izquierdo said. Detention center lights are always on, 24/7, he said, and the mosquitoes are "the size of elephants."
He said they are not allowed to go outside, and the tents are freezing.
Izquierdos partner, Katia, says hes a permanent resident who was arrested last week. He was first taken to Turner Guliford Knight Correctional Center, then to Miramar and finally to the Everglades facility. "I don't think it's humane to have people in those conditions," Katia said.
The conditions are clearly inhumane. I'd say they're barbaric, sadistic and unspeakably evil.
