It might have not been the best PR move but just think for a moment -

If they came across as being reasonable - then some crazy congressmen would have taken that as green signal to be reasonable himself ... the next thing you know - he might actually be sitting down and talking coming up with dangerous ideas ...

The audience for this presser was really the Republican congressmen -and NRA was essentially saying - "Don't even think about it"

So despite the optics - NRA knew what it was doing.

4. I agree, by advocating an extreme idea that at this present

time would have a lot of support from much of the public who are running purely off of emotions any suggestions less than an armed guard or cop in every school will seem like it's not being address seriously enough. We know better, many will not.
