Americans were addicted to cigarettes....they were everywhere...in ads, tv, movies, sold in schools and in every corner of American life....and by the 1960's the cigarette industry KNEW they were killing us, but making such a massive profit they couldn't stop and refused acknowledge anything was wrong.
Guns are as addicting as cigarettes for some people. Once you have one gun you want more....and more....our culture and society makes you want more, guns are on TV, in movies, in ads, in department stores sold everywhere and even kids can participate in gun culture we encourage that...just like we encouraged kids to smoke (there was a cigarette machine in the student lounge in my high school back in the day)
The Gun Industry refuses to admit any culpability for the rising amount of gun violence, just like the tobacco industry refused to acknowledge cigarettes were causing cancer.
The Gun industry lobbies congress to PREVENT gun ownership studies and how the number of guns in a given population relates to the number of deaths by gun violence.
the Gun Industry is on a roll and does not want to stop....just like the cigarette industry did in the 60's.
Say what you want about freedom and guns don't kill people and more guns keep us safer....just remember profit trumps safety and reason.
Profit trumps truth every time.
