Who's going to be surprised when ICE detainees are rented out as prison labor ?

Including, no doubt -- picking crops.

After all, ICE is burning money at an unprecedented rate -- someone* in Trumpland is bound to suggest this.

7. I've been using "Gator Gitmo". I agree with those who say we shouldn't accept Uglican's "humorous" 'Alligator Alcatraz'.

To get into Alcatraz, you had to have committed a crime and been convicted in a trial. And you *still* had the right to appeal, to consult with your lawyers, and to communicate with the outside world. Those in ICE detention have, mostly, not even been charged with crimes, and have no rights at all, at least according to the multiply-convicted felon* in the WH and his minions.

These camps are not about protecting our country, they are about inflicting pain and suffering on those the White-Wingers of the GOP have chosen to scapegoat for all our country's problems, despite the complete lack of any plausible mechanism of cause-and-effect, while also making sure they are "disappeared" from public knowledge or inquiry. Uglicans would create a genuine black hole if they could, and toss their "Other"s into it without limits. With no one left to attack, they'd then turn on each other.

*Who was "entitled" to multiple delays and appeals, well beyond what due process would require.

I have Saud this for ages. People were poo pooing the idea they would gather that many immigrants. What would they do with them all? This is exactly what I said - free labor/slavery.

Turnip has been so "energetic" about getting people out of the country that it seemed that really was his (own, personal) priority, and probably Miller's as well. I suspect there are others behind the scenes -- read "entepreneurs" -- who see the opportunity here as deportation slows, and imprisoned populations accumulate. "Gee, it's a shame all those people are just sitting there ! I'm sure they'd appreciate an opportunity to earn some money while they're waiting to be disposed of !" IPOs can't be far behind.

There is so much going on here, it is easy to miss comments within threads. I totally agree with everything you said. "Legal" slavery. The masses of haters will cheer.....until they get on the wrong side of things. Then they will blame Biden!

11. "Extractive" is one of those words that Dems need to use more often, and make clear it's a bad thing. nt
