Couldn't sleep and just watched the tape of Saturday's election night.
Rachel, et al were speaking with a split screen of Romney headquarters. Amazingly,
the college aged kids on stage screamed and jumped up and down for a good
thirty minutes straight. The implication, as others have reported, that these
people were local. You can see the "regular" crowd, just pretty much standing
there.
When Romney took the stage, he said "YOU SHOULD SEE THEM WHEN WE WIN."
This statement proves they are from somewhere else (they hadn't won anywhere
else in SC)

(8,546 posts)I think that busing in supporters is not new.
Also, I read somewhere that the young people were Mormons, who would be truly excited to see the first Mormon President in the White House.
That said, I think the Mormon religion is bizarre. And if Mitt were in the White House, the separation of church and state principle would be even more in danger than it was under George W. Bush.

(42,770 posts)contrast between the real and the not real was too stark. In addition, they went WAY too crazy
for seemingly no reason....except, that the campaign used the air time. I suspect they leaked
that Romney would speak and then had him not show up for a while. In the meantime, MSNBC
had the split image of those kids jumping up and down like maniacs.
Yes, sure the Mormons are excited. I know very very little of the religion...but I just did read
an excellent article in Vanity Fair about him and his religious side. I din't know about
it...didn't know he was an extremely active leader while in Boston. There's a story
in there about how his former (close to the family) babysitter got pregnant out of wedlock
and Romney went to her to urge her to give the baby up for adoption. She wanted to
keep the baby and he intimated that she would get kicked out of the Mormon religion.
Never knew he was "that hands on."
