Have managed to get laws passed where you get your gun rights restored after five years of leaving prison...used to be permanent.

Democrats in congress added the restoration language to the 1986 bill, allowing those who have had convictions expunged, set aside, or pardoned to petition for restoration of their rights- all except the right protected by the second amendment, if the state has such a statute prohibiting felons from possession of arms or ammunition.

That petition process to restore one's rights (all rights, including voting)? Was a democratic push, as part of the compromise to get the 1986 Firearm Owners Protection Act passed.

However, the republicans de-funded it in 1993, and amendments to the Treasury Department Appropriations Bill every year since (again, by republicans) have kept it from being enforced.

You're probably thinking of program that was enacted that would allow convicted felons to appeal and have their RKBA restored via the ATF.

However, the program was a wash because it was never funded.

Anyone convicted of a felony (with one exception... you must know which one it is with your treasure trove of knowledge), is barred for life from owing, purchasing and possession of firearms.

Even misdemeanors handed down by a local or state court of law can be a lifetime disqualification (if the potential maximum sentence that could be imposed exceeds 2 years or more).

One can have their RKBA restored if the conviction is expunged from their records, or if granted a pardon.

Glad I could help

I don't think anyone would object to using that list to screen out potential gun buyers.

11. People on the "terrorist watch list" can vote, and have a right to privacy, and not to incriminate..

.. themselves, and a right to free speech, and a right to petition the government for redress of grievances, and.. oh yeah..

Not have their rights infringed except via DUE PROCESS.

Imagine that.

14. You support having the Bush-era secret police suspect list used to deny people civil rights?

The list for which there is no legal recourse by which a person can challenge his or her name being on it?

That's not very liberal or progressive, or very Democratic.

Either:

1) The list is full of dangerous people, and it's stupid to let them buy all sorts of weapons.

or

2) The list is a moronic piece of crap full of innocent people, and should be eliminated.
