Total Number of Privately Owned Firearms in the US: 270,000,000
Which is almost 90x more than the number owned by the US military (3,054,533 - the most expensive military in the world)
and more than 270x the number owned by all of the law enforcement agencies in the US combined (897,400)

I like Nate's ability with numbers much better than Gallop but I don't know if his baseline is outdated or no.(using poll numbers from 08)

No guns here but I do have nine guitars though....

It is not that out of 100 people you'll typically find that 89 of them own one gun. What you will find is that three of them own 20 guns each and then just a smattering of others have a firearm at all.

An increasing number of weapons, owned by a shrinking number of people.

Widespread ownership would be decidedly less alarming.
