If someone has the actual deal broken into line items from the White House, I'd love to see it.

(7,820 posts)I think we may end up having to thank the tea party nuts in the house for not being willing to take yes for an answer. Your guess is as good as mine whether that was President Obama's plan all along.

(8,571 posts)does not mean that "Social Security is on the table." That is a stretch IMO.

(38,958 posts)It is and always was on the table. This is why we need to continue to write & call our Congress types to keep it off the table.
no way this lame duck Congress will get a comprehensive Deal. The Deal they can reasonably do right now is pass the Senate Bill on extending taxcuts and continuing unemployment benefits if the Republicans got any decency. They can let the rest of the cuts take effect and let the incoming Congress take care of it. There are 25 new members coming in.

(594 posts)the year, or does it next year, should he do it in any way, shape or form, it will end the chance of taking the House in 2014, and probably winning the Presidency in 2016. The Republican down the street says earler today: "Looks like Obama is going to cut Social Security. That's all we need to get him out of there..." These were pretty close to his exact words. Politics 101? No. Betrayal 301.

(1,782 posts)"Comprehensive package" seems to mean just that it deals with everything -- tax rates and spending both, I guess.
Does that mean social security is safe? No, it just doesn't mean anything.

(15,741 posts)Seriously, that needs to be an OP! Have you posted it as an OP? May I?
This is the crux of the negotiations broken down in a manner every American can understand, from a reliable source (WaPo).
We are is shock doctrine land - cutting SS has nothing tot do with the deficit, yet it's one of the largest portions of the package - and where is the war budget?

(142 posts)and it is the main course for all the R's and the POTUS, I absolutely and unequivocally do not trust President Obama to not cut SS.
Anyone who does trust him is going to be very disappointed.
The ONLY thing that should be on the table is the DoD Budget and not the part that covers vets, they have already cut that and the new budget cuts it even more.

(15,741 posts)Listen, I really want you to be right about SS, can you send a link to the White House clearly stating SS will not be cut?
Something like this:
Nice Jerry pic, BTW, I just saw Bobby and Jackson Browne at the Troubador 2 nights ago!
