Maybe park two out there.
I think the police do that here in KC so it just looks like the police are there - and sometimes they really are and sometimes it's just a dummy car.
Then you would only need a couple extra officers to move the cars around.
Sorry. I just can't see having teachers that are all armed to the teeth. How on earth could kids settle down and try to learn something in an atmosphere like that.

(2,679 posts)plus have officers in the school.
I live across the street from an elementary school. My kids went there and to the local middle school and then high school. Right now one is 3rd year music education major and the other just got pinned as a nurse.
From day one of both kids schooling there have always been cops on the school grounds.
Mostly because the school system has this joke program called D.A.R.E. but they are also there for a multiple other reasons.
I think it is a good thing, as it is more about community then security. These kids know the cops name and the cop knows them.
What I do not want is armed guards or armed teachers at schools. Armed guards are for prisons and military stuff. Teachers packing heat is just plain stupid.
Cops are fine for schools and most schools already have cops on campus and have had them on campus for 20+ years.

(5,252 posts)I don't know the logistics, how often they do this, how long they stay, or even which schools, but there's a high school near me that gets a lot of police attention during the day. I've seen 1 or 2 squad cars parked in front. I've also seen squad cars just drive by slowly. But this isn't Columbine. This is a city school and the building is very close to the street.
The schools definitely don't employ a cop or security guard full-time. Patroling the school just appears to be part of the police's beat.

(2,679 posts)are there the whole school day on campus and if there are after school events they stay. And yeah there is still normal cops driving and doing their beats. But the schools here have always had at least 2 cops at all if not most schools for all if not most of the school day, and so their police cars are parked in the parking lot.

(15,262 posts)Then we only need 60,000 cars instead of 100,000.

(31,464 posts)At Bradley, near Hartford, there are always empty police cars parked along the curb. I alway assume the cops are inside patrolling the airport, but who knows?

(63,912 posts)any kind of a solution. If it will help reduce even one shooting it is worth it.
I am beyond despair that this is what has happened in this country. It is appalling.
