NYT Editorial: N.R.A. Crawls From Its Hidey Hole

The N.R.A. Crawls From Its Hidey Hole
Published: December 21, 2012 250 Comments

Wayne LaPierre, the executive vice president of the National Rifle Association, would have been better advised to remain wherever he had been hiding after the Newtown, Conn., massacre, rather than appear at a news conference on Friday. No one seriously believed the N.R.A. when it said it would contribute something “meaningful” to the discussion about gun violence. The organization’s very existence is predicated on the nation being torn in half over guns. Still, we were stunned by Mr. LaPierre’s mendacious, delusional, almost deranged rant.
,
Mr. LaPierre looked wild-eyed at times as he said the killing was the fault of the media, songwriters and singers and the people who listen to them, movie and TV scriptwriters and the people who watch their work, advocates of gun control, video game makers and video game players.

The N.R.A., which devotes itself to destroying compromise on guns, is blameless. So are unscrupulous and unlicensed dealers who sell guns to criminals, and gun makers who bankroll Mr. LaPierre so he can help them peddle ever-more-lethal, ever-more-efficient products, and politicians who kill even modest controls over guns.

His solution to the proliferation of guns, including semiautomatic rifles designed to kill people as quickly as possible, is to put more guns in more places. Mr. LaPierre would put a police officer in every school and compel teachers and principals to become armed guards.

2. NRA Extremist group

My thoughts were the same. Why are we listening to these clowns? It's just another fringe group that needs to be ignored so that it will go away.

When you think of guns, think about that right wing ass.

5. exactly how does he think that putting a police officer in every school will be paid for?

a tax increase? When cities and municipalities are already cash-strapped, he advocates what? Cutting refuse removal? Street repairs? Snow removal? Letting the sewers crumble beneath the feet of these cities?

I want to know exactly how this is to be paid for that isn't going to involve a tax increase. I can't see any police officer working for free, so he's going have to be forthcoming with some details. Otherwise, this is just some crazy bullshit from a crazy old man who just needs to go away and stay away.

7. Someone on My Time to Vote on FB suggested a tax on guns/ammo to pay for it

Estimated the tax on every gun sold to pay for it at almost $3K Not sure where he/she came up with figures, but I think we could work with that. Tax the killing machines out of existence. And while we are at it, a property tax/registration fee paid each year on the ones already purchased. Just like we do for cars.

11. People do realize that the NRA is just a lobbying organization

For the gun manufacturers, don't they?

I really don't think they care how bent out of shape people get about their remarks. And anyone that has paid the least bit attention for the last ... (however many 10s years), should know they don't care what opponents think, but how they can engage proponents into more dollar bills for their clients. This is the same for anything and any organization aligned with the right wing.

The NRA wasn't exactly hiding, they were plotting how to turn this tragedy into more dollar bills. And although you think their speech was disgusting and immoral, just go log onto Facebook and see how many sick fucks are eating this sentiment all up and posting manufactured images and posters with pro (more guns) and pro (more armed militia in schools) you see... And these are mostly the same people that want to actually de-fund schools. Go figure that out.

To put it bluntly, they don't care what you think. They just know how to pad the bottom line when the opportunity comes their way.

12. There is a simple solution
Sat Dec 22, 2012, 12:45 PM
Dec 2012

Isn’t it funny? They watch the same violent shows, play the same violent video games in Japan and Canada. And, guess what? Mass shootings? NOT. Not in those countries. Nope, only in the US where the gun nuts think they have a RIGHT to kill innocents.

There’s an easy solution – capitalism. Require insurance premiums for guns; the more dangerous the gun the more expensive the policy. Set up road blocks at the gun shows – show me your valid gun insurance card or get the hell out of here. It happens every day in this country for CAR insurance.

I have to pay an extra premium for a dangerous DOG, why not additional premiums for dangerous GUNS.

When the insurance companies have to pay out huge claims like at Newtown, you can BET guns will be removed from our communities.

This brings accountability into the picture. The paper and legal mumb jumbo I imagine would be maddening though. Oh well. That's the price for accountability.

17. Take cars, for instance...

I like fast cars.

Really fast cars.

In order to keep my rates manageable, I have to agree to not exceed 2,500 miles/year on some of them. My insurer (Lloyd's) actually sends a mechanic to my barn once a year to check the odometers.

Hell, sometimes it seems like the only non-regulated category is firearms.

The right wingers worship only one thing more than guns - capitalism.

For once, just one time, let's turn it against them.

14. The hard core gun nut
Sat Dec 22, 2012, 01:10 PM
Dec 2012

has only two arguments:

1. I have an unalienable right to a gun.

2. Guns are never a problem.

To defend or to rebut either of these positions requires reasoned discourse. The hard core gun nut is incapable of that. He or she merely regurgitate NRA talking points or makes thinly veiled threats in the mold of "2nd Amendment solutions." Anyone who owns a gun and has not had a dark night of the soul over what has happened will not. Ergo, they cannot be reasoned with.

15. Mr. LaPierre (my retort)
Sat Dec 22, 2012, 01:45 PM
Dec 2012

Mr. LaPierre -

FUCK you, you diseased moron.
I pray that one day a despondent madman, a disturbed genius or a simply grieving father finds you and kills you.

You are a blight on humanity and should be exterminated like any other harmful vermin.

I hope it is not a clean death either. I want you to be gut shot and slowly bleed to death in agony, during which I want hallucinations to be visited on your dying corpse that haunt you with the anguish of the millions of victims (dead or surviving) of the gun culture you so fiercely love. I want the faces of 6 and 7-year old children, their heads missing large portions of skull and brain, their bodies smashed and bruised beyond recognition by 0.223 caliber rounds (although you made it abundantly clear that your dick only gets hard imagining the carnage of HIGHER CALIBER rounds you sick fucker) to fill your mind and haunt your very soul. I want you to feel the pain of your organs slowly failing as the blood leaks out of your body. I want you to imagine the sights of little babies in pink dresses and blue jerseys stained red with their own blood and soiled with the contents of their bowels as their sphincter muscles let go at the moment of death. I want you to feel the life oozing out of you while visions of this horror and worse play in an endless loop in that sick rotted head on your shoulders.

I hope that you lie dying and are forced to contemplate the millions of lives impacted by your advocacy of insanity. The crying mothers and destroyed fathers weeping in total emptiness and powerlessness, the haunted brothers and sisters grieving their missing playmates and siblings, the grieving aunts and uncles who are gutted by watching their own brothers and sisters being eviscerated by the chasm that is opened by a rifle shot to the head of a 7 year old boy, the bewildered friends who only know they have lost a playmate or a best-friend or their whole world as they suffer nightmares and post-traumatic stress disorder before they reach the age of 8. The collective anguish that you contribute to, and now openly mock in the most sick way humanly imaginable, should be revisited upon you a million fold.

Seeing as I have no belief in an afterlife, I want you to suffer NOW and for the rest of your life. I pray that an Islamic mullah somewhere sees fit to issue a fatwa upon your life (what do you say out there Muslims? I hear That Wayne LaPierre called Mohammed a cock-sucking child molester who loved taking it in the ass while eating pork and ogling sheep; and also that he claims Jesus had a bigger dick....) and that you must spend the remaining days of your life checking corners and fearing blind spots and with security guards following you everywhere, even when your sick ass goes into the bathroom to jerk off to the latest issue of Guns and Ammo.

I hope your family is torn asunder by guns. If you have daughters or sons (and if not then your wife or mother or just the woman that you lust after while stroking your guns), I hope that they die under the merciless fire of a 100-round drum or 30-round magazine quickly snapped into a semi-automatic handgun pulled on them in a church or supermarket or theater or school or emergency room or daycare center or your own fucking home. Better still, I hope your agony is increased by seeing them die in your arms after being hit by stray fire from drive-by shootings with bullets and guns that mean so much to you while they are slaughtering other people's children by the thousands annually. I want you to feel true helpless agony. Not the kind from imaginary threats to your precious fucking "rights" but the kind that renders you powerless to even move a muscle, the kind that makes you suffer from a complete inability to move because you feel that you cannot even will your body to breathe. The kind of anguish in short that comes when the phone rings and the voice on the other end tells you that your child is never coming home, is never going to have another meal, or runny nose or skinned knee or school play or football game or band performance or graduation or prom or marriage or even another breath of their own.

Before you die, I just want you to experience that sense of loss so that you die knowing EXACTLY what kind of piece of shit you are in life.
