Then just who or what can you believe? Of course the Mayan calendar will last a whole lot longer than the Oreo simply because of the yummy factor.

4. Stop setting up mindf*ck Straw Men

No Mayan Daykeeper has ever -- to my knowledge -- said a damn thing about the "end of the world."

If anyone has a valid link to a valid Mayan Daykeeper making such a claim, post it.

Otherwise, stop twisting the words of the Maya about their calendar.

This kind of propaganda is dangerous because people dismiss the Maya, and never pay any attention whatsoever to what they have actually said, and are actiually saying, about their CALENDAR.

The Straw Man "end of the world" BS totally distorts and misrepresents their words and their messages.

8. Well, the dismissal of the Mayans has been ongoing for weeks

on the scale of some EeeeEeeevil Occult Black Ops Distortion-Misdirection Wave (R).

What the Maya actually say about the change of calendars is, in fact, important and worthwhile. But the CASCADE of 'end of the world' strawmen has effectively diverted global attention from these human beings, their traditions, and the teachings they have been trying to offer.

So it does piss me off to see endless blurring, misdirection, and discounting of Native peoples. It has been going on for over 500 freaking years...

the world" nonsense) how about enlightening us as to what the maya have, and are, actually saying? that would be of far more use than just haranguing us about the unspecified lies and distortions, don't you think?

Jeesh. Do you find it funny when Republicans lie and allege that Barack Obama is a Kenyan-born Muslim Commie Socialist who should be continually disrespected? Thousands upon thousands of people believe that lie. Millions believe the lie that the Mayans predicted the 'end of the world'

Do not try to blow off my interest in, and commitment to truth.

13. After over 500 years of genocide, and countless mistruths and lies and spin

the particular lie of the dominant culture -- and its corporate media -- that the Mayan calendar predicted the end of the world does not seem like "just a little fun" to me, or to the Maya I know.

It seems, instead, like more of the same: lies and distortion causing the authentic message to be OCCULTED in a time when it might do some good.

The US Government -- your government -- has broken or violated EVERY SINGLE ONE over the over 470 legally binding treaties it has entered into with various Native Nations. You add in Canada and Mexico with their PERFECT RECORDS of violating treaties, and it's close to 1,500.

So lies that distort from the truth -- even when they are presented as some kind of "cute" oreo cookie joke -- are still damn lies, and they are dangerous. This is a fact of life for native people.

You would think that -- after enduring the darkside Republicans campaign of wholesale lies to American voters -- the members of the DU community would have an keen interest in, and respect for, honesty and truth.

Please stop lying about the Mayans and the Mayan calendar.

Lies are wrong. Even "cute" lies. It's that simple.

15. For the record: the OP cookie does not even show the Mayan calendar. It show the Aztec

But by now the false image of the calendar is generally accepted as the truth.

It's ORWELLIAN. Most people will meekly accept the false image of the calendar, and the lie that it predicted the end of the world, as truth -- and thus a candidate for Full On Mockery.

Those people -- and YOU may be one of them -- would be well advised to re-read 1984.
