Potentially Dangerous Psychotic Haunted Our Development For Several Years ----

In mid 1980's when a friend of mine and I worked at DOL (our local Job Service) we had a young man who lived two houses down from my friend. He was in his early 20's and was generally ok until he passed his teenaged years. He became extremely psychotic and used to roam our neighbor hood at night. He was physically fit and as strong as any athlete his age. He was an extremely good looking and normal looking young man at a distance. But being near him was very scary. Sadly he was completely crazy and would talk to himself and others not present.

He used to come into our local state job service and demand to go out on jobs he was NOT qualified for. None of us employment reps wanted to work for him because he was so threatening and aggressive. And he used to frequent our local office where workers would file for unemployment and seek work.

He also lived in my neighborhood and my friend would see him in his back year two houses away. His aging parents had little control of him. And as far as we knew owned NO guns. He was a lit fuse ready to go off any time. He was put in a mental institution briefly but was let out.

I do not know what happened to him but at some point he was no longer in the neighborhood and may have finally been put into a mental health facility where he could be treated for his severe mental illness. His parents may have sold their home and moved, but the good thing is that he was no longer in our area.

All I know is that he was as scary as anyone I ever met. I wonder what would have happened if he had access to weapons like we do now. Back then the "gun nut" phase had not totally taken off like it is now.

There was no way to commit a psychotic like Barry until he actually harmed someone. Because of our primitive system for dealing with the mentally ill is so badly broken, easy access to weapons generally give the mentally ill a lot of opportunity to arm themselves.

A police officer in a school would not have stopped this madness. Even several police officers cannot quickly stop a person with boy armor. And some recent shooting with several armed officers close by shows that they can be easily killed by an armed and body armored gunman. The NRA and LaShithead are completely full of shit.

the pathologies to morph into other manifestations, no less, and likely even more problematic in different ways.

At minimum we need absolute assault weapons control and mental health care parity in all insurance benefits.

Military personnel have and organizational structure with strict regulations they must follow to be allowed such guns. Leave them there.

But you also said he was psychotic and severely mentally ill.

Did you learn of his pscyhosis/severe mental illness through your job at the Department of Labor, or some other valid source?

Or, is that your assessment because you found the guy badly behaved and intimidating?

and was unable to function well on his own in society. Without food and housing supplied by his parents, he'd be out on the streets.
I think we've all seen poor unfortunate people like this before.

Maybe you saw it first hand, maybe he told you, maybe it was in some DOL social work report. I don't know.

I'm just trying to reconcile the statements you made.

I've seen it too often. And don't need to be an MD to discuss it on a forum, but thanks.

Schizoid personality disorder is just extreme lack of interest in social relationships. If someone hears voices, they are schizophrenic or possibly schizotypal.

thousands of people a year. The whole Job Service office where we worked knew this person and had contact with guy. Our management was aware of him and watched him like a hawk when he came in. He was told not to come back. He was high functioning enough just like the guy who shot up the Aurora theater. And my friend and I knew this guy when he was normal when he was younger. Something went very wrong with him. He lived in our neighborhood. We knew his parents. They did not know what to do with him.

We dealt with dysfunctional people a lot and there are a lot of. I got tangled up with a vet who was 100% mentally disabled in my office one day. I was working in a very dysfunctional county office at the time. The guy had me virtually trapped in my office for 3 hours having me call the VA for his disability check. He was homeless and psychotic and had been thrown out of the local homeless shelter. The county service office helped me out of the fix. We eventually got the guy to leave.

I also worked at that same homeless shelter for four years. We had a number of mentally ill residents coming through the area.

who have been fed fear day in and day out. Told not to believe anyone but their kind. To fear at any moment there will be a collaspe of soceity and they will need their guns to fend off the hungry rioting hords after their stuff...How many out there, with a low self esteem, but for some reason when they hold that gun, they feel invincible...like say George Zimmerman, you feel he would have gotten out of his vehicle if that pistol was not right there? He felt himself to be SUPERMAN, invincible...

It's a sickness. This isnt home protection to go out and purchase guns, that dont only kill, but sprays bullets three times the speed of sound, and mangles soft tissue to hamburger... This is no longer self protection...its something else.

I tend to feel it's sexual in nature...Gun Lust, Gun porn, growing a bigger better Penis, that sprays bullets like a penis ejaculating.
