(16,974 posts)as it happens?
Zoeisright
(8,339 posts)Can you wrap your head around that?
I doubt it.

(154,021 posts)Is that the military totes gun everywhere while on post.
They have strict controls that would, actually probably are, surprise civilians.
The MPs responded, like civilian counterparts would respond to a mass shootings in places like...insert your recent shooting here.
The army considered allowing people to carry guns in more places within post for ten minutes...that is until they realized a few of the wounded were friendly fire.

(9,186 posts)the big question is: if as you assert there is so much control of firearms on a militrary base, how did this officer bring the weapon onto the base?
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)If you remember he used a military issue weapon this also raised many procedure questions.
Have you been to a base, let alone lived in one? I have.
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)You do realize that the only personnel issued weapons on a military base are the MPs, right?

(10,164 posts)It's a small town in and of itself, basically. A small town's police department isn't on the scene to prevent every murder, either.

(14,524 posts)...having armed LEO on hand, didn't stop diddly.
And this is your proposal to "protect schools?"
Just fucking brilliant. Do you people ever listen to the horseshit you lay out?
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)I have, in fact, stated my opposition to the idea in several threads.
How's that foot taste...?
99Forever
(14,524 posts)... you sound so much like the rest of the gun fanatics, how was I to know?
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)You sound a lot like a bunch of the anti-gun folk here, yourself. That is, frothing with anger and going off half cocked.
99Forever
(14,524 posts)But unlike the rabid gun nuts, I don't have the slightest problem owning that fact.
Why is that?
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)...getting pro gun rights people to admit the fact. Even here, where you stand a fair chance of getting swarmed, your posts alerted for no legitimate reason other than some posters can't abide opinions contrary to their own, and tombstoned when you finally give back a little of the vitriol you receive.
It's when someone insists on using insulting terms to describe you (like "gun nuts" that you'll encounter people rejecting the entire line of conversation. As well they should...
99Forever
(14,524 posts)Alert away. Swarm away. Insult away. You got nothing.
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)We're not the ones swarming, alerting, and insulting, chum...
Your complete lack of response to the actual point duly noted, though. Bye, now...
99Forever
(14,524 posts)... which it isn't, I'd simply ask you, how's it feel to have your own childish tactics turned back on you. It's a perfect description of how many gunheads operate.
Bet you can't leave this alone, can you?

(3,707 posts)...and ready to kill for their precious guns.
You know, my cold dead hands rhetoric!
Lizzie Poppet
(10,164 posts)Plenty of hysteria and irrationality to go around on both sides of this issue, alas...
Duckhunter935
(16,974 posts)had to respond just like off post officers would have to.
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)Not the people in the processing area.
Believe it or not, if we had the kinds of controls within a base, mass shootings would mostly go away.
Eric the Reddish
(106 posts)if we had the same rules in non-military public areas?
nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)The military has tight controls over all hardware and ammo and people do not walk armed unless they are in the live fire training areas.
This is a great misconception. That everybody is trotting inside a base.
JoePhilly
(27,787 posts)After all, they are all trained. Using the NRA's logic, that's what we should do.

(154,021 posts)A few injuries were friendly fire.
