Those clowns in the House are running for reelection continuously. They're forced to keep their ear to the ground. I'll bet they're a bit worried about what they're hearing these days.

(135,425 posts)We need to retake the House--the sooner there's crashing and burning on the GOP side, the sooner that will happen!

(131,129 posts)but I don't think anyone can or would lead repugs where we want the House to go. Floundering repugs may be in the future for a bit, and it may be Nancy who ends up bringing some sort of House majority into fruition.

Boehner doesn't control the caucus. No matter what he says, the inmates of the GOP insane asylum will do as they please.
If Boehner isn't the Speaker, then Cantor will be. The loonies will still do as they please, but the Speaker will be one of the loonies. That will make the GOP look more more obnoxious than it would under Boehner, but they'll be every bit as obnoxious either way.
The House will not pass anything the Senate will pass or the President will sign.

(36,063 posts)GOP Congressmen are a likely to push issues and accept boiler plate language from think tanks sponsored by their cherished big donors as any lazy republican in the Wisconsin legislature.
There are literally hundreds of them is DC who function as conduits in that way. Removing Boehner won't change any of that.

(62,444 posts)The thing with those "safe districts" like Boehner's is that it is "safe" for Boehner. He's not going to lose a primary to an even nuttier nut. There are plenty of R's from safe but moderate districts who woild improve their "bipartisan" cred by bucking a more extreme speaker.

(404 posts)The act of replacing Boehner will cause chaos in the GOP. They do not deal well with dissension and discord. It could have long term ramifications for the GOP.

Boehner is more of a wheeler-and-dealer. He may be impotent with all those yahoos elected due to improper redistricting, but it makes the President appear (and be) more of a leader, more in command of the situations.
Better to keep Boehner around for a while.

(25,699 posts)Because whatever replaces Boehner (and I stress, whatever) is going to be even worse at it than he is. Which is a gain for Democrats.

(14,428 posts)... for no other reason than the horrible aesthetics. Bohner has his own problems the the orange skin and the smoker's voice, but Cantor is in a whole class of his own that would only serve to make people hate Republicans even more. Every thing about the man drips with a gross phoney quality. The average American will look at him and be reminded of every smug, condescending, self-absorbed, overly-ambitious, back-stabbing, prick boss or co-worker they have ever had.
Just the visceral reaction to him alone will be enough to win back the House.

(58,162 posts)it`s the kock bros and their friends that control the rabid right wing that controls boehner. i doubt boehner wants to be remembered as one of the worse leaders of the house but his fate is sealed no matter what he does now.
well... if he resigned maybe history would be kind to him.

(25,029 posts)If we are going to keep trying to deal Boehner is about as good as we get.
If we are going to go to the mattresses then Canter is more smarmy and hate-able.
