who thought he wasn't radically extreme right enough?
The Republican party has been drifting further and further to the right for decades. I've often wondered how much further they could possibly go. They have now reached the twilight zone.

(3,011 posts)The purge of centrist republicans who were willing to work with democrats to do the best they could for america began under reagan, accelerated under gringrich, and went into overdrive under bush. Now the repub party act like...Jr high? High schoolers? Trying to see which faction can be the most obnoxious and outrageous, with the consequence that their actions affect lives in deadly ways.

(24,563 posts)I have a cousin who has been trying to elevate himself in the party since Reagan. His schtick is "I was in the motorcade with Reagan, I ran trmp's campaign in Oakland County, I met with trmp and he's considering me for Ambassador to Lebanon", etc. My mom keeps getting fb messages from him - "John A***** is at Mar-A-Lago". He went crazy on me right before the election at my mother's house, right after answering his phone. I'm sure it was someone he wanted to impress with some "I had to straighten out my liberal cousin" bullshit. By the way, I was in the motorcade with Kennedy, just so you know. I was 4 years old and we were trying to get to his campaign speech in Mt. Clemens MI but the roads were packed. My mother said "Look, there's the motorcade!" I stood up in the backseat and looked out the window of our '58 Edsel just in time to see a couple of Lincoln limos drive by. There, now you know.

(63,737 posts)even further right in a state like Utah. Moving towards extremism would be an act of rebellion for young people.
Whos going to stop them from drinking the coolaid, if coolaid is all they have to drink?

(12,386 posts)Tyler Robinson's family would go on shooting vacations in the Grand Canyon. I can think of much better use of my time in the Grand Canyon. His family trained and motivated him for this murder. Though I suspect they wish he had shot a left leaning person. But they are very few and hard to find in Utah.
When you start from the far right and moving even a modicum to the left is considered too extreme, you have no where to go except further right.

(19,813 posts)One thing that stood out for me in one of the many articles online was that he tested in the 99 percentile (likely on an SAT or similar test), which is a near perfect score. Often, it seems, that degree of intelligence can come with some strange quirks. Just my opinion.

If they neutralize one another fast enough, maybe our country will have a chance of improving.

I just think its unwise for folks to be purporting to know someones political affiliation/leanings based on only that
seems like mostly wishful thinking

(25,226 posts)These influencers are in competition with themselves. Yes, their rhetoric is anti-liberal or anti-anythiny a decent society might want. But in reality they're in the market attracting the same customers. Hence their real enemy is each other. It's Coke versus Pepsi. They aren't worried about liberal influencers taking market share from them. They worry about other RWers taking their market share. It's a race to the bottom. And we're probably at the bottom.

(39,872 posts)These crazy MAGA cultists are blaming each other in the same way that Dems sometimes harp, "The good is the enemy of the perfect." Problem is, they're crazy (we're not) and they have gunz.

On the other than, they can also be used to troll those on the alt-right when you're about to bash in their heads. "Yeah, I'm a _______" ... BASH!
Language is funny that way.

(485 posts)Don't hold your breath waiting for journalists integrity from any of the U.S. mainstream media. They are all scared out of their minds, afraid to dig in and report what they find. The shooting aligns with Nick Fuentes' Groyper movement. Robinson apparently told police he admires Fuentes. Fuentes has gone into full denial mode.
