at what point will the media like the NY Times, and our elected officials, finally admit that we're now living under an authoritarian government and stop pussyfooting around? I know, I know - some here will say "what does it matter what they call it" - but it DOES matter. We're like that proverbial frog in boiling water. By the time we wake up, we're going to be boiled alive. Does the Times think that Jimmy Kimmel is a one-off?

(24,742 posts)I think the few responsible journalists and news outlets left know exactly what is going on. (In fact, the easiest way to identify them is by seeing Trump suing them and insulting their journalists.)
The Washington Post lost all of its most respected journalists. The Baltimore Sun was taken over, and immediately lost all credibility. I resubscribed to the NYTimes, but I have quibbles with them as well, at times (and have for decades).
"Mainstream media" used to mean print and broadcast news with journalistic standards. Facts had to be vetted, and if mistakes were made, it meant corrections, apologies, and firings. Fox Nooz, and internet gossiping as information, changed all that.
There is no mainstream media anymore, in my view. Every outlet seems either to be backing down in fear of Donald, or risking everything by telling the truth and standing up to him. The FACTS are never in his favor (and they've gotten thousands of people fired!)!!
I don't know how the U.S.A. can get through this era, honestly.
