Fearing Violent Threats, CDC Medical Experts Are Scared To Talk About Vaccine Safety - Huffington Post via MSNWASHINGTON Medical experts at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are declining to talk publicly about vaccine safety because theyre afraid of becoming the targets of violent threats stemming from baseless conspiracy theories about vaccines, former top CDC officials warned Wednesday.
I have many that wont speak about vaccines now and have removed their names off of papers, Dr. Debra Houry, the recently former CDC chief medical officer, told the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee. They dont wish to present publicly anymore because they feel they were personally targeted because of misinformation.
I myself was subject to threats, Dr. Susan Monarez, the recently former CDC acting director, told the panel.
I am very concerned that the further promulgation of misleading information will undermine not just the safety and health of our children, but it will also exacerbate some of these tensions ― the willingness to commit harm if someone is affronted by a belief that the people like us that are trying to help them are actually not trying to help them, she said.

Trump Is Shutting Down Cancer Research - Futurism "Why would we want to destroy one of our greatest assets?"
As the New York Times reports, the Trump administration has dramatically slashed funding to US-based cancer research, endangering the country's overall leading position in science research not to mention the fates of cancer patients across the country.
"We are great in science," Harold Varmus, former director of the National Institute of Health (NIH) and a Nobel prize-winning scientist, told the NYT. "Why would we want to destroy one of our greatest assets?"
In the first three months of his second term, Trump has slashed $2.7 billion from the NIH's budget. Federal cancer research, in particular, has seen drastic reductions, which critics say will hamper any advancement in finding effective treatments. This has translated into mass layoffs and the freezing of important ongoing studies.
In addition, Trump has proposed another round of cuts for next year, such as reducing the budget of the NIH agency, the National Cancer Institute, from $7.2 billion to $4.5 billion, according to the NYT.
