David Letterman Laments Jimmy Kimmel Suspension: This Is Misery
Legendary late-night host David Letterman has weighed in on the events that led ABC to suspend Jimmy Kimmel.
This is misery, Letterman said when asked about Kimmels suspension, speaking at The Atlantic Festival 2025 Thursday in New York. I feel bad about this, he continued. We see where this is all going, correct? Its managed media. And its no good. Its silly. Its ridiculous. And you cant go around firing somebody because youre fearful or trying to suck up to an authoritarian criminal administration in the Oval Office. Thats just not how this works.
In the world of somebody who is an authoritarian, maybe a dictatorship, sooner or later, everyone is going to be touched, said Letterman.
Letterman also said, The institution of the president of the United States ought to be bigger than a guy doing a talk show. Kimmels removal from late-night TV, he said, was predicted by our president right after Stephen Colbert got walked off, so youre telling me this isnt premeditated at some level?

There's many more good quotes in there, including about Colbert's situation. Love Dave.

(4,088 posts)1. Wow, even his enemy Jay Leno is on Kimmel's side
He's generally been Republican-lite all these years, so I do think it means something if even he sees the danger in all of this:
Jay Leno says he's 'on Jimmy Kimmel's side'

It's not like Kimmel was a Bill Maher, or even a Jon Stewart. Kimmel is super likeable! He could probably run for office and win.
