https://www.kfyrtv.com/2025/09/17/tariffs-leave-north-dakotas-top-crop-without-its-biggest-buyer/?outputType=ampAccording to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, China historically has been the largest buyer for North Dakota soybeans; the state exported over 70% of the crop to China before President Trump unveiled this years tariffs.
Last year, soybeans sold for $12, but are now selling for $10. Appert doesnt want to sell them at such a low price, and said that this year poses a unique challenge.
North Dakota went 70% Trump in 2024.

(7,646 posts)Basically said people don't see the benefits of tariffs because those people are stupid.
Also said "Smart people don't like me". Um... Yeah, so those who like you are dumb? Confirmation of our theory for sure.

(13,596 posts)We just need to focus on core issues, be evidence-minded, and be serious. I really hope we can do that. We need to recenter the center and stop trying to think with our glands. Grow up and get back our working and middle class constituencies.
Do I feel schadenfreude about farmers who voted Trump taking it in the neck? Nope. Soybean farmers still haven't recovered from Trump's first round of tariffs. They never will most likely. Or, at least the ones who voted Trump won't own the farms if and when the markets ever come back. Corporations will! Yay!

(3,953 posts)I doubt theyll ever support a democratic candidate for just about any office. The hate runs deep and these folks will never own up to their mistakes; personal responsibility is something others must suffer.
Not discouraging anyone for trying, but I dont think Ill live long enough to see a Democratic president carry ND. Only three democrats have carried the state since it was admitted to the Union.

(13,596 posts)I'm just talking about rural in general, and small town, and middle and working class and everyday people who just wanted to do their jobs and have a good time with their families and friends.
Dems have a role to play. We shouldn't just punt and give up.

(1,121 posts)Doesn't Vance buy farmland from small farmers ? If the farmer's bailout is already approved, they just collect money without even having to grow anything. It's why TheRump keeps saying that they're all going to be rich.
