The U.S. government shut down at 12:01 AM.

This is not a fight over tax credits. This is a fight over your ability to go to a pharmacy and afford your insulin.

We’re not talking about just 15% or 20% increases in people’s premiums.

Healthcare companies are finalizing the premiums that everyday Americans are going to be paying. And we are talking about a doubling of monthly healthcare premiums not even including deductibles, in terms of what people are going to be paying next year, because of a trillion dollars in Medicaid cuts that were put together earlier this year.

I don’t know about anybody else, but I do not think this is just about a tax break or small tax extender. This is about fighting for community health centers, and ensuring that we have stability of the American healthcare system.

And when Republicans use a legislative mechanism to gut the American healthcare system, we have to use a legislative mechanism in order to restore it and fight for it.

He asked her about the rumor that Chuck Schumer is going to blame AOC and the progressive Democrats if the shutdown goes bad. He asked her point blank if it's because she may run against Schumer for his Senate seat.

Democrats better be united, 3 Senators broke ranks and voted for the CR.

Should have taken this stand back in March before the Big Ugly Death Bill became law, Krasnov got everything he wanted, why does he care to negotiate now?

9. GOP is rapidly breaking institutions, norms, laws, fed govt, health care, safety nets, economy, alliances...this

demands that pundits, journalists, and elected dems make the case for unusual resistance and response. This doesn't need to be reduced to a fight about health care subsidies, IMHO, but that's a fine reason too.

The shut down will be ugly. We have been in an ugly place already but MSM likes to emphasize the current crisis without the context of the near-daily crisis for past 9 months.

10. Health care subsidies is the best reason for the Democrats. They need to dig in on it hard and loud.

As long as this is the reason they will gradually be seen as the party trying to protect the American people’s health insurance affordability. Keep it shut down untill the mouth breathers start seeing their new skyrocketing health care premiums arrive. Then they might understand that Democrats are fighting for THEIR health insurance affordability and put some pressure on their Republican representatives in Congress.

and they have been working, non-stop, since FDR signed Social Security into law.

They have finally reached a point in time, where the majority of Americans have no fucking clue, or remembrance of how fucking horrid life was for the poor and middle-class in the 1920s.

America didn't just "willy-nilly" put together the New Deal.

Americans weren't just sitting around one day and say; "hey, why don't we give our elderly people a nice little entitlement."

No! Americans looked around and saw our elderly people, who built this fucking country, dying in the streets, being slammed into debtors prisons, being tossed aside like trash when the corporations didn't need them anymore, and being sent off to Poor Farms!

America looked at all that and said; "this cannot stand!"

Retrumplicans have been working to dismantle all of that since before the ink dried.

I was born in Phila on July 3 and I always felt that MY birthday was also the country's birthday. I would walk past Indep. Hall to go to work in 1982. I was a photog student for the summer and my photos are all about Phila and our wonderful history.

Today I am in tears. MY COUNTRY IS GONE! Raygun was the asshole who started this whole shitshow 45 years ago! I've been an activist since I was 17. I'm pooped! I'm exhausted!!!

I will continue to fight (it's who I am and what I do) but my passion and anger have a sense of doom. I'm grateful I will die without ACA subsidies. I won't be forced to live through 3 more years of the shit. It's simple and realistic.
