What parents & grandparents may not know about Bad Bunny

I used to teach ESL at a blended learning high school with my classes being set up online. 3 years ago, I decided to introduce "Famous Bilinguals" to my classes: Leonardo DiCaprio, Author Sandra Cisneros, and Senator Tammy Duckworth. The next quarter, I asked my students who they wanted to talk about. Immediately and unanimously, they said Bad Bunny! So I learned about him for my students.

His father was a truck driver and his mother an English teacher. He has two younger brothers. The name comes from a childhood picture when he was in a bunny costume being grumpy. Later, when he started a social media account with that name, it stuck.

He's an LGBTQA+ ally, and appeared in drag in the music video for his hit, "Yo Perreo Sola" (I Twerk Alone). The song's theme is about respecting women's independence. A few days before he made his first appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon (2020), a trans-woman was murdered in Puerto Rico. During that appearance, Bad Bunny wore a t-shirt that said: "Mataron a Alexa, no a un hombre con falda" (They murdered Alexa, not a man in a skirt.)

Bad Bunny's music is a blend of Latin Trap and reggaeton. That's what gives him such a unique sound with hip hop, rap from the American south, reggaeton which uses both electronic and traditional reggae instruments. Bad Bunny is not only an internationally-recognized artist, he's also a decent human being.

I'll definitely be watching the 2026 half-time show - the first one in years. It should be really good!

learn about him and listen to his music. I think that is great.

I have to chuckle that these morons are so upset about Bad Bunny, which only shows their abject ignorance. That he only sings in Spanish just chafes their behinds...LOL. I know enough Spanish to be "dangerous," albeit well served at a bar or restaurant..LOL. Actually, I understand quite a bit. I just don't speak well. Too much time spent on some of the NON-Romance languages (German, Arabic, a little Farsi), I guess.

I didn’t know much about him until this SB kerfuffle. Pulled up some of his songs on Apple Music and I love it! Fun, peppy, soulful.

I don’t speak Spanish. I just like his music and style!

Billboard: For his first performance, Bad Bunny delivered a striking rendition of “NUEVAYoL,” seamlessly blending traditional and contemporary Caribbean rhythms. The performance featured a powerful visual homage to the iconic 1930s photograph of 11 ironworkers eating lunch on a steel beam high above Manhattan during the construction of 30 Rockefeller Plaza — appropriately tying to SNL’s home turf.

He seems like a good guy and a talented singer. I'm not really a fan of hip hop (mostly because of my age) but I can see why he would be popular with the younger groups. I'm glad he got the Superbowl deal!

What a fabulous person! I'm gonna start listening to his music. I hope I can understand some of it; I'm not bilingual.

Knew he was a good guy. But I didn’t know all this

Funny thing is that I’m technically fluent in Spanish. But I’m fluent in textbook Spanish. And I sure as hell did not know the verb for “twerk”.

Again, thanks for posting this.

(she is Dominican/Trinidadian descent and had apparently been asked to perform at the SB but turned it down - it would set the crowd afire if she did show up with BB anyway )

Unfortunately for English speakers trying to research this foundation its website is only in Spanish, but Bad Bunny donates a lot of his money to needs on the Island of Puerto Rico. You're right, he's a good person.
