Another billionaire for Trump.
Salesforce Tries to Help ICE Boost Its Immigration Force
The San Francisco-based firm has told ICE that it could use A.I. to help the agency nearly triple its staff. The companys C.E.O., once a progressive tech titan, has embraced President Trump.
Marc Benioff, the chief executive of Salesforce, shocked San Franciscans last week when he said that he fully supports President Trump and wants National Guard troops deployed to their city.
Mr. Benioffs support of the National Guard ran counter to the citys famously liberal underpinnings and to his own reputation as a benefactor of progressive causes. San Francisco leaders, already outraged by those remarks, were upset to learn on Thursday that the homegrown company was trying to help Mr. Trump with his immigration crackdown.
Salesforce, which also contracted with ICE under the Obama and Biden administrations, is far from the only tech company helping ICE drastically expand its enforcement efforts under Mr. Trump. Palantir, the Denver-based software company co-founded by the conservative billionaire Peter Thiel, is a major partner of ICE. Microsoft and IBM also have contracts with the agency.
The companys ICE Slack channel included chatter about Salesforce employees attending a Border Security Expo in April with the hopes of meeting Tom Homan, Mr. Trumps border czar, to applaud him on his efforts.
.... Benihoff has long been considered a liberal benefactor .. He hosted a fund-raiser for Hillary Clinton when she ran against Mr. Trump in 2016. He funded the campaign for a 2018 city ballot measure to tax businesses, including his own, to support homeless services. He canceled Salesforce travel to Indiana after the state enacted a law that allowed companies to refuse business to L.G.B.T.Q. people on religious grounds.

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, SF Mayor Scrap Event After National Guard Comment | KQED https://share.google/Guf3aQ7QaW97Hmbrf
Benioff has since said that his comments were intended to suggest that San Francisco needs the same level of policing that takes place during Salesforces flagship conference, Dreamforce, happening this week in downtown San Francisco. ...
Days after his comments advocating for President Donald Trump to send the National Guard into San Francisco ballooned into a controversy, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff was slated to appear at a press event on Monday afternoon with Mayor Daniel Lurie. Then it was cancelled.
The abrupt change came after Benioff, a fourth-generation San Franciscan once viewed as relatively liberal, came under fire over the weekend for praising Trump in an interview with The New York Times and lambasting the citys approach to combating crime, saying the city should refund the police force....
But Benioffs comments shocked some city officials and were immediately seized on by other tech giants close to Trump, like Elon Musk, who echoed Benioffs call to bring the National Guard to San Francisco.
Its the only solution at this point, Musk posted Sunday on X. Nothing else has or will work.
On Sunday, the Salesforce CEO elaborated on his remarks on X.
When I was recently asked about federal resources, my point was this: each year, to make Dreamforce as safe as possible for 50,000 attendees, we add 200 additional law-enforcement professionals coordinated across city, state, and other partners, he said in the lengthy post. Its proof that collaboration works and a reminder that the city needs more resources to keep San Franciscans safe year-round.

Key Points
In a post on X, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said he regrets comments he made in support of President Trump sending federal troops to San Francisco.
Having listened closely to my fellow San Franciscans and our local officials, and after the largest and safest Dreamforce in our history, I do not believe the National Guard is needed to address safety in San Francisco, Benioff wrote.

So much for SalesFarce
Keeps bad company, anyway.
