(663 posts)Of Mr. Coakley, it says:
Draic Coakley (Democrat): A military veteran and community organizer from Montgomery. Coakley emphasizes veterans affairs, economic development in rural areas, and healthcare access. He filed with the FEC in mid-2025 and is the only Democrat currently registered for the race.

(4,657 posts)Draic Coakley, a 23-year-old who works in the trucking industry and drove from Heflin, Alabama, just across the western Georgia border to attend his third Trump rally, said he believes Trump sees people like me, while Biden and Harris, well, are part of what I think of as the elite.
President Trump may be a billionaire, but its OK to be rich, Coakley said. He gets us. He just gets us, and he gets the country.
It does appear to be the same Draic Coakley. A Heflin Alabama address is on his FEC filing. A consultant named William Allan in Monroe WA is listed as the treasurer of his campaign committee. What is going on here?

(4,657 posts)In my opinion, running everywhere is more important than winning everywhere.
Just making that my personal crusade.
I very much dislike seeing Republicans run unopposed when a growing Less of Trump constituency is waiting to cast their ballots for a Democrat, even a presumably quixotic one.
Less of Trump is the only issue. A Democratic Congress is the only mechanism to achieve it.

(21,051 posts)Republicans don't run a candidate in many heavily Democratic districts either.
I get why both sides do it though. Democrats have as much chance of winning in certain Alabama districts as Republicans have at winning in Harlem or East NY. The Parties don't want to waste valuable campaign funds in unwinnable races.
Anyone can run though, if they get enough signatures to get on the ballot. Just don't expect any Party money, as they will either have to fund their own campaign, or rely on grassroot donations.
