Differing ratios for the population of deplorables who support this but it's some combination of the two.

They love the brutality and lawlessness, so long as POC are the ones suffering.

If we resist physically, we get the shit beat out of us.

If we use more force than "resisting", we get shot and killed. And that won't stop their efforts. In fact, that is their goal.

We can film and hamper their efforts, under the risk of getting beat up or killed.

This has to change from the top down.

What has the possibility of changing this from the top down are massive protests, or a general strike. I do not think enough mass of people could be summoned to spur a general strike.

They have the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judiciary. Federal judges lower than the Supreme Court can also slow them down or hamper them, but any significant road block will be brought to the Supremes, who are also in Trump's pocket.

It's gone way too far, and now we are behind the 8 ball.

I'm not saying we are out numbered, I'm not saying it's impossible to stop. They don't have "more" weapons, but they have the "more important" weapons.

They’re big and armed to the teeth. Trump thugs and crooks feast on our fears. It’s rare to see bullies actually punched out.

Among people I know, mostly white, older and at least middle class, there is a lot of shock that they don't have the control they always thought they had. To us, it is an abrupt loss of privilege that as reasonably affluent, very educated people, who had some connections to power in our communities is a surprise. The normal responses we have had all our adult lives don't work against the actions of the Trump led federal government. So we protest, without thinking it will actually do much, other than bring attention to what is happening.

Like it's a permanent state of existence that we are all helplessly suffering through

Examples: in between songs, the radio DJ mentions that we all need to find time away from the stress

Yesterday, the newscaster talked about experiencing life outside of social media.

So many allusions to "what's going on" with out details.

Like a shared trauma that we can't mention

I think I've heard the very apt Buffalo Springfield song, For What it's worth, more often than in years.
