While Republicans have sought to blame Democrats for the potential loss in benefits that people who make little money rely on, those who work in the food-insecurity space say that is misleading because Donald Trumps One Big Beautiful Bill Act already eliminated almost $187bn in funding for Snap through 2024, according to a congressional budget office estimate.
Should funding run out at the end of the month, we will have the greatest hunger catastrophe in America since the Great Depression, and I dont say that as hyperbole, said Joel Berg, CEO of Hunger Free America.

The Department of Agriculture recently sent a letter to regional Snap directors warning them that funding for Snap will run out at the end of the month and directing them to hold payments until further notice.
More than 200 Democratic representatives have urged the USDA to use contingency funds to continue paying for Snap benefits.
There are clear steps the administration can and must take immediately to ensure that millions of families across the country can put food on their table in November, a letter from the lawmakers to the USDA states. SNAP benefits reach those in need this November would be a gross dereliction of your responsibilities to the American people. We appreciate your consideration of these requests.

(52,971 posts)I'm seeing appeals in the local Democratic email, and that food donations were collected at the NoKings rally a week ago.
Some food banks locally are affiliated with churches. It's not all county level and corporate donations and United Way.

With typical Republican/Conservative hypocrisy, she went with Medicare at the end of her life.

Its protagonist, Danny Renahan, is modeled on a real-life Los Angeles murderer, 19-year-old William Hickman, who strangled and dismembered a girl in a kidnapping-for-ransom gone awry." https://time.com/3951166/ayn-rand-ideal-fountainhead/
So, I guess she would have been fine if Hickman had done the same thing to her?
This is the philosophy these fools follow.

(12,220 posts)Hungry people will do anything to get food. This is what brought down French Kings and Queens.
When you take away food, you take away hope. Hopeless people are angry mean people. Hunger is what ushered in the New Deal, FDR and WWII.
It's not just the fact that people will go hungry as they do in dictatorships all over the world. It's that what they had, what little food they got, is going to be taken away from them. It's not as if these newly hungry people lived there whole life scrounging for food. It's that the food they once relied on is actively being pulled back to give tax cuts to the filthy-rich.
The filthy-rich oligarchs think this is fine. They think they can use these newly hungry people to work for pennies. They think it will give them cheap and practically free labor.
But......a lot of the hungry are smart, if not rich, people. They can see pedo Trump's $300 million ballroom being erected. They can see how the rich live while they starve or beg for food.
Who do you think they will blame when the filthy-rich take away the little food they had?
