Anonymous No More: The MAGA Donor that's bankrolling troop pay

Timothy Mellon, a reclusive billionaire and a major financial backer of President Trump, is the anonymous private donor who gave $130 million to the U.S. government to help pay troops during the shutdown, according to two people familiar with the matter.

Mr. Trump announced the donation on Thursday night, but he declined to name the person who provided the funds, only calling him a “patriot” and a friend. But the two people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the donation was private, identified him as Mr. Mellon.

Shortly after departing Washington on Friday, Mr. Trump again declined to identify Mr. Mellon while talking to reporters aboard Air Force One. He only said the individual was “a great American citizen” and a “substantial man.”

“He doesn’t want publicity,” Mr. Trump said as he headed to Malaysia. “He prefer that his name not be mentioned which is pretty unusual in the world I come from, and in the world of politics, you want your name mentioned.”

I'll bet a plug nickle that Mellon is the reason Donny released the Amelia Earhart files

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timothy_Mellon#Search_for_Amelia_Earhart

In 2012, Mellon donated over $1 million to The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (TIGHAR), a nonprofit organization, to assist its efforts to find Amelia Earhart's plane and remains. In 2013, he sued TIGHAR for racketeering, alleging that it engaged in deceit by soliciting his money to search for Earhart's plane.[19] Mellon claimed that the plane had been found in 2010, before he made his donation.[20]

In 2014, U.S. District Judge Scott W. Skavdahl granted TIGHAR's motion for summary judgment after recognizing that even Mellon's own experts were unable to confirm his allegations about the 2010 photographs that he claimed showed the plane. Skavdahl concluded:

"Defendants represented to Plaintiff they were planning another expedition in their continued quest to find the wreckage of Amelia Earhart's airplane. Upon reading about Defendants' efforts, Plaintiff contacted Defendants and expressed his interest in supporting the expedition with a monetary contribution. That's exactly what the parties then did. No false representations were made. Regardless, no rational trier of fact could find Defendants falsely represented they had not found Earhart's plane by embarking on another expedition in hopes of finding conclusive evidence to prove it. No matter how convinced or sincere Plaintiff is in his subjective belief and opinion that Amelia Earhart's airplane was or should have been discovered prior to the making of his donation, that belief and opinion is insufficient to create a genuine dispute of material fact."

Mellon appealed to the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, which affirmed the district court's ruling without holding oral argument. The Tenth Circuit concluded that the lack of actionable falsity precluded Mellon's claims.

These guys never give anything without an expectation of a payback. Never.

What has Trump promised him?

And how does this work? Can I buy the local TSA operation at my airport. And if I am paying their salaries, does that mean I can walk through without any inspection?

Can I buy the FDA meat inspection unit that oversees my meat packing plant?

To be clear, this is completely speculation - there is no proof of a direct connection between Timothy Mellon & Epstein. But there is a direct connection between Mellon Bank, from which he inherited his fortune, years ago merged with the Bank of New York to form BNY Mellon and Epstein. And Timothy Mellon and his family are just generally horrible, despicable people.

One of Pittsburgh's corporate titans is facing a lawsuit over its ties to convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.

The class action lawsuit was filed Wednesday by one of Epstein's victims, who is identified only as Jane Doe.

The lawsuit says BNY played a key role in financing Epstein's sexual trafficking enterprise before he died by an apparent suicide in 2019 in a New York jail.

"BNY for years processed $378 million in payments to women trafficked by Jeffrey Epstein," the complaint says. "BNY had a plethora of information regarding Epstein's sex trafficking operation but chose profit over protecting the victims."

Some background on him (and the Mellon family as a whole):

https://www.climatecriminals.org/timothy-mellon
Mellon made his first major political donation only four years ago, but since then, he has poured tens of millions of dollars from his oil-fueled inheritance into helping Republicans maintain control of the US House and Senate. He was the single largest donor of Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.

The Mellon Family’s bank, The Bank of New York Mellon (BNY Mellon), has 35 million dollars invested in various oil and gas companies.

The Mellon family funds the Sarah Scaife Foundation, which has donated $21.5 million to the Heritage Foundation. The Heritage Foundation is financed by the Koch Brothers and has strong ties with many climate denial groups and is the leading group behind Project 2025. Timothy Mellon has also donated millions to the Sentinel Action Fund- a super PAC with close affiliations to the Heritage Foundation. Mellon has donated $11 million to the Sentinel Action Fund from 2022-2024 and was the Fund’s top donor for the 2024 election cycle.

PanAm Railways, which Mellon owned for over 40 years, has committed numerous violations of federal and state environmental and safety laws. PanAm has been fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for environmental violations such as improper storage and disposal of hazardous waste. In a case brought forward by the Massachusetts Attorney General, the company was found guilty of concealing a 2006 hazardous oil spill of over 900 gallons of diesel fuel in its railyard.

Mellon has been praised by RFK Jr., who proclaimed that “Tim Mellon is a maverick entrepreneur who embodies the most admirable qualities of what FDR called ‘American industrial genius.’”
“Timothy Mellon — and the tens of millions he is shelling out to Trump, RFK Jr and Republican candidates for the Senate and House — is the product of a tax system pioneered by his grandfather that allows the perpetuation of dynastic wealth and the maintenance of its political power.” -Robert Reich, labor secretary under Bill Clinton
“Black people, in spite of heroic efforts by the ‘Establishment’ to right the wrongs of the past, became even more belligerent and unwilling to pitch in to improve their own situations… For delivering their votes in the Federal Elections, they are awarded with yet more and more freebies: food stamps, cell phones, WIC payments, Obamacare, and on, and on, and on.” -Mellon in his 2015 autobiography.

$130 million pays about 6 hours of total cost of military pay.
They're buying PR. "Look how much we've done for the troops. It's all the democrats' fault."
Then the media will report on it, without any details on how this is less that one fourteen hundredths of what is needed.
They get "good press" and get to pile further blame on dems. To them, it's money well spent.
