Until 2024, I had hope that we weren’t really so utterly debased and immoral as to put him in the White House a second time.

I no longer have any hope at all. We are a malfunctioning septic tank of a country, and we’re not likely to ever change.

That’s when the propaganda and psy-ops started by Republicans. It turned from the hippies being popular and “don’t trust anyone under 30” and the younger population being idealistic and listened to. Then, Reagan and “greed is good” became popular.

White people are individuals. They become very upset if you try to blame the election of trump on the group. 65% of white men that voted , voted for trump and many young white men voted for trump. But everyone else belongs to a group like Hispanics, blacks and Pacific Islanders. You would not believe the conversations I’ve had about how could black men vote for trump.

I’m noting the irony. It’s not that deep. That being said, the OP seems to be very offended about someone pointing out the objective fact that a majority of white voters voted for Trump. Not sure why that simple fact is so upsetting to them. Kinda weird.

And Greg Palast has shown that more than three million people were disenfranchised through Republican skullduggery.

So really I think that it is about one third of the electorate who are either enthusiastic about authoritarianism (80%) or willing to accept it (20%) if it what is necessary to keep them in charge.

The problem for the Democratic party is that when the apathetic and ignorant third start to wake up they won't understand how things have gotten so bad. The Republican propaganda machine will be ready to spew hateful lies. The Democratic party needs to be ready with the truth.

Trump’s moronic supporters do.

Trump Cult members think he’s ‘funny,’ they adore him because he’s not like any other politician, they respect that he says what’s on his mind, no matter how idiotic, wrong, or dangerous.

As to the OP – agree somewhat, in that the likes of Trump is the consequence of the voters’ ignorance, fear, and stupidity, where it could indeed happen again.

he has ever done (exception being POTUS - he has made more money with his corruption that anytime in his life). He does understand that a large segment of the US population is just like him and know how to tap into the "victim" mentality.

I do think that Mamdani more represents the progressive wing of the Dem party but the reality is that in the Bible Belt and Flyover country people are just not as progressive (more moderate) and because white America makes up over 70% of the electorate it will take a united coalition in order for us to win.

I think the biggest thing we have going for us will be similar to what happened after the George W Bush administration....he was so bad that whomever is the Dem candidate will win. That is if we are actually able to have free and fair elections in another 3 years - that is a big if.

Meanwhile......

Trump does not rule out seeking third term - but says he will not use VP loophole (BBC)

US President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility of seeking a third term for the White House, saying he would "love to do it".

But Trump rejected the possibility of running for vice-president in 2028 - an idea floated by some supporters as a way for him to circumvent the US constitution that bars the president from running for a third term.

Speaking to reporters during his trip to Asia, Trump described the idea as "too cute" and said it "wouldn't be right".

It is unclear what method he would use to run again. Last week, former Trump strategist Steve Bannon said that a "plan" was in place to secure the 79-year-old president another term.
