It's not easy. I was an Amazon junkie too. I've been working on it for a long time, and
haven't bought anything from them for a while. The only thing I haven't been able to find elsewhere is my orthotics, which I buy once a year. I'm still working on finding another source though.
I had no idea Business Insider was a Bezos company! Thanks for the info.
I'm using a lot of Etsy and Ebay. I go to the mall now and then, which I hadn't done in decades. To be completely honest, I don't always find everything I need, but I'm buying clothing that actually fits now because I try it on, rather than just hoping it will fit and thinking it's "good enough" when I get it. And I don't impulse buy anymore, so I'm happier with the things I do buy.
Most companies let you buy directly from them, so it won't be at your house in 2 days, but it will get there.
You said you won't be completely avoiding Amazon. Remember, though, that you don't have to belong to Amazon Prime for the free shipping. If you have $35 worth of goods, the shipping is free without a Prime membership.
You can do this, and it's really worthwhile for all the reasons you listed. I wish you every success in it!!
