YOU KNEW Trump had an escape hatch in his "RELEASE the Epstein files, NOTHING to hide" order...right?

I've predicted this from the start, as have other DUers.

On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump called on GOP lawmakers to “vote to release the Epstein files,” writing that the “House Oversight Committee can have whatever they are legally entitled to.” It’s this phrasing, however, that (journalist Adam) Cochran highlighted as a “red flag.”

“The Oversight Committee is allowed to get information from the [Justice Department] on ‘active’ cases that the rest of Congress cannot get. BUT, a number of different rules allow the DOJ to withhold information ‘at their discretion’ without even informing Oversight,” Cochran wrote Monday in a social media post on X.

“So by saying ‘Oversight’ can have ‘what they are legally entitled to,’ Trump is saying he intends to have DOJ provide Oversight selective files and withhold the rest under ‘active investigation’ terms – possibly without even revealing that to Oversight.”

She doesn't even have to disclose which files she withheld, so no one will know.

from the files and the bill would be the latest law on the subject that would override any previous laws or DOJ customs about disclosing information, whether the files or active or not. The bill before the House could be used in court to force the files to be released, active investigations or not.

It will be blocked in the senate by a filibuster.

And one that has the blessings of Trump to vote for release of the files? So Senators will stand alone as defenders of sexual perverts while House members and the President want the files released, making the Senate Republicans the lone evil doers? I don't think so.

He didn’t say anything about the senate.

That’s what the filibuster is for, avoiding accountability.

Since a filibuster would prevent a floor vote, there would be no record of anyone voting against releasing the files.

More importantly, Trump wouldn’t be put in the position of vetoing it.

If he was serious about it, all he has to do would be to tell his Attorney General lacky in the DOJ to release the files. Simple as that.

This is just more posturing and bluffing.

I bet that in the likelihood of the thing passing the House, he’s got an ace-in-the-hole over in the Senate. Hell, because the Senate doesn’t have a mechanism like the House’s discharge petition, Thune will just put it in the round file as soon as he gets it.

Another reason Donald can get away with this is that he and Pamela Jo Bondi have already devised a plan to block the release of the files. At Donald's request, Bondi just started a new, "ongoing investigation" into Epstein that, per DOJ rules, will prevent the release of any evidence.
