So Covid just went away, huh?

We have gotten updates about Covid rates and vaccines every year around this time starting in October. This year it’s just crickets. I guess we’ll just have to monitor ourselves and our families.

America is Youre-on-your-own-istan now.

Public Health activities slashed by the DOGE-bags and/or BrainWorm Bobby include monitoring/inspecting for things like food poisoning and, of course, flu. IIRC epidemiologists have been worrying about a new bird flu jumping species (again) but ya know, it takes funding to look for it...

In addition to that, there's a new flu variant going around. It seems to have taken hold in Japan, UK, and Canada, but we don't have robust data collection on how much it's spreading in the US.

We'd been waiting for our primary care doc to get the vax in for months this year. They'd requested it, but it was not arriving. We finally gave up a few weeks ago and got it at Walgreen's. Was surprised to learn that my shitty health coverage no longer covered the Covid vax, at least not at Walgreen's (the flu, Tdap, & MMR were covered at my doc's office). It was $250. Paid it b/c I'd waited in line already for so long.

The only other time over the past 5 years that a Covid vax wasn't covered is when I got the Novavax at Costco 12/23. Costco didn't take my insurance. Didn't know about it before time. Again, paid it b/c we'd waited in line and all that.

Intended to make an appointment earlier after reading about the hassle people were having getting it.

Walked in about 1pm, no wait, no hassle about being under 65, and was done less than 20 minutes later.

Ordinarily I'd go to a local pharmacy, as I hate big corporations and chains, but I was driving by and decided to give it a shot. The last couple years I was turned away by the local place as I wasn't quite old enough.

They even provide an option to view the data overlaid on a map of the state so you can see where the infections are occurring.

On a related note, we received our Covid shots yesterday. We got Covid last year after evading it for four and a half years and five vaccinations. I got a moderate case which felt just like when I had pneumonia in the late 1980s; not fun at all!

the store, regardless of the time, there are regular announcements reminding people that they have the covid, flu, and rsv vaccines, and urging everyone to get them. And there are posters with the same message throughout the store. I checked one day, they actually had the Moderna, I was in and out in less than 20 minutes, and just continued wuth my shopping.

Damn it, I STILL am waiting for that third arm!!!

A soon as I no longer had it, I got vaccinated for that and for the flu. I just spoke to a nurse today that had it a couple weeks ago. She said it was worse this time than it was the first time. She never wants to be that sick again. And she gets vaccinated.

and it still hit me hard. I took Plaxovid and that really helped ease the razor sore throat and pounding headache. I had a dry cough and loss of taste and smell for several weeks. I don’t like to think how this strain would have affected me without having been vaccinated. This anti vax idiocy is infuriating! Be well, everyone!

you might want to ask your doctor about Astepro nasal spray.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/40892398/

I have no other connection with the company other than using the nasal spray myself. I've been vaxxed and boosted all along, and with Asperger's social distancing is my superpower.
But I live in an area where people don't take the pandemic seriously and I got covid. It almost killed me and now I have long covid. My stamina is 10% of what it was before covid. I intend to do whatever I can to avoid another bout of covid.

CDC is badly weakened these days.

I actively sought out and got the vaccine this year. Lots of folks did not. I'm hoping our side still has enough residual immunity built up since the other party is less vaccinated. COVID is with us forever. Variants descended from the Spanish flu from 1918 still exist in circulation.

where our doctors are idiots, so they were both prescribed Paxlovid. Her husband is feeling better (got sick on Sunday) but she didn’t start feeling sick until Tuesday and tested negative until yesterday, so she is a few days behind him. She still is feeling awful and sounds terrible.

My H was worried as he hasn’t seen their cars move for days, which is very unusual. So I called and she told me what was up.

They get all the boosters but I don’t know if they had gotten their fall booster yet and I didn’t ask.
