General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI am pretty sure we no longer have a functioning federal government.
There are some things that continue to operate more or less normally because they were set up to be accomplished automatically (e.g., SS payments, at least for now) or locally in those offices that still exist (e.g., USPS), but at the upper management level it's a complete goat fuck. A dumpster fire. Whatever other metaphor you can think of that describes chaos and dysfunction. The president is stupid, crazy and evil all at once; his appointees are incompetent when they aren't being evil; Congress is supine (maybe just now starting to awaken a bit); the lower federal courts are doing their best to keep the machinery running properly but SCOTUS is unreliable; and the whole thing looks like the Keystone Kops reconstituted as the Wehrmacht. I don't know how much longer the circus of insane clowns can continue before there's actual bloodshed.

(3,496 posts)The Court is very reliable you can rely on it to rule in favor of Trump, Republicans, and conservatives; next up: gutting the VRA.

(800 posts)Most of them were also the Keystone Kops of their time. Unqualified people who never would have risen to the positions of power they obtained without the support of the regime.
These folks in the Trump regime should have had the foresight to realize that in the modern world authoritarianism almost always collapses, sometimes with a lot of prison time for the conspirators. They are incredibly hubristic and stupid, and they have no one to blame except themselves.

(5,872 posts)The myth of German efficiency, as far as the Nazis were concerned, was limited to endless paperwork and micro-management.
Also the Nazi propaganda films, which still to this day influence people's view of the regime.

(7,790 posts)The magas think they're so virile, gun-savvy, and so much more macho than the hummus-eating, tree hugging liberals. What they don't remember is that WE took all their crap when we were young and we're STILL tree hugging patriots. They couldn't defeat us then, and they won't defeat us now. They're going to be surprised at how angry and resilient in our resolve we actually are. But, I'm afraid it's not gonna happen easily or smoothly... IOW, there will be blood.

(22,177 posts)YOU, saying this sends even more chills down my back. We win in the courts, and it doesn't seem to help at all. Like i posted earlier, even when we take BOTH houses in 26, they won't listen to a fucking law we pass. They will have THIS Supreme courts blessing to continue to DESTROY everything American. Something has to happen to save our country.

(5,011 posts)ripping away the husbands and wives and fathers and mothers of US citizens,
because they may not have their papers totally in order...
or because they visited a US courthouse, trying to obey our immigration laws!
The Republicans are ONLY 'pro-family' for 'ALL-WHITE families'...
but, they do still fail at that, since they want to deport
3,000 undocumented people every day, but are not
coming close to that goal (thankfully) !
My personal list of mostly white Republicans
whom I would like to see deported, regardless of their US citizenship,
is continually growing longer.....
